Round 5 of the Tight and Technical Racing Series
Guam International Raceway

On this past Sunday, Fathers Day, dirt bike and atv racers many of which were fathers enjoying their one day out of the year held round 5 of the ten round Tight and Technical Racing Series. The course for the event was a shortened version of the presently designed motocross track laid out at the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Off Road Park located within the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. The lay out was also for the most part flat with only one major table top type jump. Conditions for the event were close to perfect with clear skies and cool breezes blowing in over Guam’s north eastern cliff line where the park is located. The event included four classes from 85cc mini bike and Kids atv overall and 70cc classes up to the larger open atv class with competitors of all ages competing. Racing kicked off shortly after 1pm and went for most of the remainder of the day.
It’s been a busy year for racing as the kids atv class were the first of the 3 classes up to the starting line. At the drop of the green flag signifying the start of the race #5 Tyler Caporuscio aboard a DRX 70 launched up to the front of the rest of the competitors as if shot from a canon and proceeded to go unchallenged to take the win after 10 laps. Taking second place in the 70cc class was #11 Jose Simpson with third place finisher #95 Gabriel Munoz finishing in third close behind. Both riders were aboard the DRX kids atv’s. Tyler Caporuscio also took the kids atv overall win edging out second place finisher Cameron Stalling for the win. Taking third overall in the Kids atv was Jose Simpson.
In the 85cc class the battle for the round 5 win was between two Suzuki Rm 85 riders Breane Pine and Frank Vawters Jr. Early on it was first year rider and racer Frank Vawters leading the more experienced Breane Pine around the tight and technical course. The two got side by side down a short straight where Pine out breaked her male counter part to make the pass for the lead. Pine went on to take the win with Vawters taking second.
In the final race of the event the Open Atv class did battle with team Cycles Plus rider Robert Bucek taking the win aboard the Suzuki Ltr 450. Taking second was another Suzuki mounted rider #14 Kelly Simpson who was followed by in third place by RPM Yamaha Yfz 450 rider Keara Bucek. Taking fourth after crashing while challenging for the lead of the race was #77 Brian Hill aboard his Yamaha Yfz 450.

The next upcoming event will be round 4 of the Supermoto Race Series this coming Sunday June 28th with racing set to start at 12noon at the main parking lot of the GIR. The next scheduled Tight Technical Racing Series event will be round 6 to be held once again at the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Off Road Park in Yigo on Saturday July 11th with racing set to begin at 4pm. Press Release-Guam International Raceway Motorcycle and Atv Corporation- GIRMAC-2009 Guam Motocross Championship Round 4-Sunday June 14th -Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Off Road Park

Motocross was back with round 4 of ten of the Guam Motocross Championships held this past Sunday out at the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Off Road Park located within the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. Conditions for the event were hot and dusty making for a very slick race course. The event was once again free to the public to come out to watch and to meet the riders. With several different classes being contested ranging from mini bikes and kids atv classes up to the big open class atvs and motorcycle classes the racing got started just after 1pm and wrapped up just after 4pm.

The kids were up first for their races with the kids atv class. Jumping up front at the drop of the gate was Tyler Caporuscio on a 70cc DRX machine who has been on a win streak as of late in the 70cc Kids class. Close behind and challenging Tyler for the lead was Cameron Stalling aboard his 90cc DRX a more powerful machine in regards to cubic centimeters to the engine size to Tylers 70cc machine. The two were never more than a few feet apart from each other with the 70cc machine holding the lead for more than the first half of the race. The Stalling and Caporuscio battle went all the way to the checkers with Stalling on the bigger 90cc machine just edging Caporuscio by a bike length at the finish. Cameron Stalling took the overall Kids Atv win with Tyler Caporuscio taking second overall but first in the 70cc Kids Atv class there by keeping his win streak in that class alive. Taking second in the 70cc class was Jose Simpson who was followed by Gabriel Munoz in third place. The only female competitor 6 year old Raven Girgan who will turn 7 in July placed fourth with a mechanical problem with her Polaris 80.  In the Kids Atv Guam Motocross Championship standings as of round four of ten Gavin Stalling with 97 points hold the points lead over Derin Aguon’s 91 points in the 50cc class. Gabriel Munoz leads the 70cc class with 158 points over Raven Girgan’s 154 points. In the 90cc class Dylan Aguon leads Cameron Stalling 75 points to 44 points.

The next class up at the starting gates were the two wheeled 85cc mini bikes which saw #1 JR Cepeda grab an early lead and being chased by Jake Jones, Ricco Pereira and Frank Vawters Jr. Early in the race Jones and Pereira put pressure on each other for second which eventually resulted in a miscue by Jones allowing Pereira to put distance on him for the second place position. Going into the second half of the race Pereira in second picked up the pace to eventually catch and overtake Cepeda for the lead and the win. Taking second was Cepeda with Jones in third and Vawters taking fourth. JR Cepeda aboard his Kawasaki and supported by the House of Chin Fe still leads the 85cc mini bike points chase in the Guam championships with 197 points over Pereira’s 177 points.

The 250cc and open class motorcycles were up after the 85cc class event and was a complete display of domination by teenaged Yamaha mounted Paul Errol Angoco of Agat who took the lead from the first lap all the way to the checkers leaving no doubt that on this day he was the man. Taking second was vet rider Tom Tarnate aboard his Kawasaki with Holand Ada taking third overall also aboard a Kawasaki. Paul Errol Angoco after four rounds run in the championships now leads both the open class motorcycles and the 250cc class with 141 points over Honda mounted Jesse Clokey’s 129 points.

In the Open Atv class #7 Suzuki mounted Karl Fukuda launched his four wheeled Quadracer to the front of the pack and was being followed by a snarling pack that consisted of Rob Bucek, Kelly Simpson and Keara Bucek. Fukuda was running strong and was putting down any and all attempts being put on by the pack behind him until midway into the race where it appeared that either the heat or a possible problem with the quad was slowing him down this allowed both Rob Bucek and Kelly Simpson to slip by before the checkers. Taking the win was Cycles Plus team rider Rob Bucek aboard their Suzuki Ltr 450. Taking second was female rider Kelly Simpson on her Suzuki with early race leader Karl Fukuda holding on to third. Taking fourth was Keara Bucek aboard the RPM Yamaha Yfz 450. Rob Bucek leads the championships aboard the Suzuki with 200 points over Yamaha mounted Keara Buceks 148 points.

Up next at the park will be round 5 of the Tight and Technical Racing Series which will be held this coming Sunday June 21st rain or shine at the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Off Road Park with racing to start at 1pm. The event will be free to come and watch and to meet the riders. Round 5 of the Guam Motocross Championships will be held on Sunday July 19th also at the park. Press Release Guam International Raceway Motorcycle and Atv Corporation Guam 2009 Motocross Championships Round 3 of 10

A small bit of Guam motocross history was made this past Sunday as the Guam International Raceway Motorcycle and Atv Corporation held round 3 of the Guam 2009 Motocross Championships on a newly designed and created course located at the GIR in Yigo. For the past several years motocross events had taken place within the dirt quarter mile flat track located at the GIR Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Off Road Park where man made jumps and turns were built to create a course. The new course located outside of the original oval now paved and known as the Hawaiian Rock Products Stock Car Track was built to allow the natural hills and valleys from the lay of the land to dictate the new course and the obstacles such as jumps and turns that were to be included.

With the sun blazing down making for a very hot and dry day young and old motocrosser’s took to racing on the new course each in their own respective classes. The new course included an uphill start, several switch backs, lots of jumps and sections that allowed the riders to open up their machines and shift through all the gears.

Race action Taking top honors in the open overall and in the 250cc classes was teenage sensation Paul Errol Angoco aboard the #14 Yamaha he was followed by Honda mounted #687 Jesse Clokey in second and Kawasaki mounted Tom Tarnate on machine #53. Taking first place in the 450cc class was #4 Paul Sweeney aboard a Suzuki he was followed by another Suzuki rider in second #33 Jay Jones. In the over 40 or vet class #53 Tom Tarnate on his #53 Kawasaki took first with #16 Kenneth Jacobs taking second and Kim Aikens placing third.

In the mini bike classes Blaze Aiken on his Kawasaki took first overall in the 50cc class over heat winner Ben Sweeney who took second place overall aboard his Yamaha. In the 65cc class Zachary Sweeney was letting his Kawasaki fly to take first as he seemed to be very comfortable on the new course. Taking second in the 65cc class was Rowan Pereira also aboard a Kawasaki. The final mini bike class of the event saw the 85cc class machine tearing up the new course. #1 JR Cepeda racing his Kawasaki supported by the House of Chin Fe take the heat wins and the overall for the class. Taking second was Cycles Plus Kawasaki team rider Ricco Pereira who was followed by Jake Jones on his Honda in third place.

In the Atv classes #5 Tyler Caporuscio and his DRX kept a winning streak alive by taking the win in the 70cc Kids atv class. Taking second was Gabriel Munoz also aboard a DRX who was followed by third place finisher and female competitor Raven Girgan on her Polaris and fourth place finisher Jonathan Rose also aboard a Polaris. In the Open Atv class Dave Demarest aboard a Suzuki in his very first race on Guam took an early lead and held it for most of the race eventually succumbing to the pressure placed by veteran racer and reigning champion Rob Bucek to place a solid second place overall. Rob Bucek racing aboard the Cycles Plus Ltr 450 Suzuki had been buried in Demarest’s dust and appeared to have had to work hard for this win. Taking third was another Suzuki rider #7 Karl Fukuda who adopted quickly to the new motocross course holding off all charges of the fourth place finisher and only female competitor 15 year old Keara Bucek who was aboard the RPM Yamaha YFZ 450.

After a full day of heavy motocross racing the newly laid out motocross course had appeared to have proved itself of being a worthy upgrade by allowing for exciting fun side by side racing. The newly designed course also appears to be a positive step towards more of a motocross style course and with a GRF plan of extending the new course by another two thirds before the end of this summer riders and racers alike are looking forward to more good times out on the new motocross course.

The next scheduled motocross event will be for round 4 of the Guam 2009 Motocross Championships to be held on Sunday June 14th starting at 1pm. Spectators are welcomed free of charge and those needing further information on the event can contact Guam Racing Federation Public Information Officer Robert Bucek at 727-5381

Supermoto Race Series Round 3 of 10

The main parking lot at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo this past Sunday was the venue for round 3 of a scheduled 10 round Supermoto Race Series. Both motorcycles and Atv’s competed in the event under clear skies and cool breezy conditions that were ideal for a day of racing. Spectators were welcomed free of charge with the racing getting started at 1pm and finishing up by 3:30pm just in time for the Guam Drifting Association to lay down some great drifts as they prepare for their upcoming championship event in June. Three separate and respective classes ran two heats each on Sunday during round 3 of the Supermoto Race Series. Up first was the 10 lap dash for the Mini Motard class followed by a 10 lap points earning race for the Mini Motard division. The final class that ran was the Open Atv class that combined a tight asphalt section to a very high speed off road section to their course.

In the 10 lap dash for the Mini Motard class Tom Akigami took an early lead and proceeded to pull away from the rest of his fellow competitors. Just when it was looking as if the race was all Tom Akigami for the win Akigami lost control of his machine going down by way of sliding across the asphalt. With the considerable lead Akigami had built up he was able to quickly remount and remain in the lead of the race. Akigami went on to take the checkers in both heats in first place. Second place went to Ken Jacobs who was then followed by the third place finisher PJ Charfauros. Fourth went to Joel Cruz, fifth was Oliver Camacho and sixth was Austin Santos.

In the points earning race Dennis Quinones aboard his Team Monster Energy Kawasaki took an early lead and had his rear view mirror full of a snarling pack of competitors who were each maneuvering for position and to take the lead. Caleb Barretto was the only rider that managed to get by the wily vet Quinones who had apparently mastered the art of blocking and brake checking to take a lead in the two heats that were run. Quinones with his first place finish in heat 1 combined with his second place finish in heat 2 took the round 3 win scoring 47 points towards the ten round series. Taking second with 45 points was Caleb Barretto. Third went to Gener Lumbre with 38 points scored and also racing for the Team Monster Energy Kawasaki.

In the final race of the day RPM Yamaha rider Keara Bucek was able to twist it up a notch by taking first in heat 1. Bucek then took a very strong second place in heat 2 for a second place overall finish and scoring 47 points towards the series. Keara Bucek and her Yamaha Yfz 450 sit securely in second place in the series points for the Open Atv class. Taking first was another Bucek, Robert Bucek racing for the team of Cycles Plus who took the win aboard the Suzuki Ltr 450 LE just edging out Keara Bucek during the final second heat of the event.

The air at the Guam International Raceway was glowing red this past Saturday night as atv and motorcycles enthusiasts racing in respective classes kicked up clouds of red dust into the illuminated air during round 3 of the 10 round GIRMAC Tight and Technical Race Series. Spectator gates were left open and the event was free of any charge to those who came out to watch the racing. Following the races the awards presentation took place inside the GIRMAC concession store where all the kids who participated and had displayed sportsmanship received prizes courtesy of McDonalds Guam along with trophies presented to the top three finishers in each of the respective kids classes.

High lights and top 3 results.

The 85cc mini bike class saw a great fight for the lead take place between House of Chin Fe rider JR Cepeda and Cycles Plus Kawasaki racer Ricco Pereira. At the early stages of the race Cepeda dominated but was never quite able to pull any significant distance away from the savvy Pereira who was as a shadow to Cepeda’s every move around the course. Eventually Pereira poured on the throttle and made the move on Cepeda to take the lead and therefore go on to take the win. Cepeda took second with Jake Jones aboard a Honda placing in a very solid third for a podium position.

In the Open Motorcycle class Honda mounted Jesse Clokey took the win but had new comer Kawasaki mounted Addison Stalling making him earn the win. Addison who has race experience from the mainland was on a borrowed bike from Cycles Plus and also was riding and racing on Guam for his very first time. Addison took an early lead and held that lead up until the final lap of the race where in Clokey made the move that that put him up front to take the win on the final lap. Addison took a very respectable second popping a long wheelie as past by the checkered flag at the finish and was followed by third place finisher and Cycles Plus Kawasaki team rider Shawn Aguilo.

In the 50cc mini bike class first time racer Blaze Aiken took his two wheeled mx machine to the front to take the win over second place racer Jeremy Jones.

In the 50cc Kids Atv class Isaiah Reyes took the win over Like Reyes and Gavin Stalling who placed second and third respectively. All three top finishers were aboard DRX mini atvs.

In the 70 to 89cc Kids Atv class the DRX mini atvs again took the top three podium positions with Jose Simpson in first, Gabriel Munoz in second, and Tyler Caporuscio in third place.

The action was intense in the 90cc Kids atv class where a battle between four riders for the lead took place on nearly each of the 8 laps run. Cameron stalling showed that crashing hard during the early practice doesn’t mean your going to be slow in the race. Stalling came from the back of the pack to pick off  each rider until he had put himself up front and in the lead for the win. Taking second was Ramon Torres and placing third was Shane Reyes. DRX mini atv racers once again filled the podium making it a clean sweep in all the kids atv classes for the DRX brand.

In the Open Atv class Cycles Plus team rider Robert Bucek took the win aboard his Suzuki Ltr 450. Taking second was another Ltr 450 racer Kelly Simpson. Taking third was Yamaha Yfz 450 racer Brian Hill.

High lights and top 3 results

In the Open motorcycle class Honda mounted Jesse Clokey was the first rider out of the pack of snarling racers to get through the first turn after the gates fell for the start. Clokey launched his red machine through the rhythm section that sends riders propelling through the air with #10 Mike Limtiaco and team Cycles Plus rider #9 Jonathan Lizama in close pursuit. The action was close between the three front runners with both Limtiaco aboard his Kawasaki and Lizama also on a Kawasaki challenging Clokey on every corner for the lead. Clokey was riding fearlessly as he seemed to throw his bike from side to side while soaring nearly 20 feet in the air just inches ahead of his competition but as the laps wore down it became apparent that Lizama had more in the tank stamina wise and made the move past both Limtiaco and Clokey to take the lead. Lizama held on to the lead to take first place with Limtiaco just edging out Clokey for second. Clokey finished a very strong third.

In the 70cc Kids Atv class Jose Simpson took his blue DRX to the front of the pack and to the win leaving his competitors battling each other to decide second on down. Daeven Aguon on his DRX, Raven Girgan on her Polaris and Gabriel Munoz also on the DRX machine raced each other hard with Aguon taking second and Girgan placing third.

Dylan Aguon and Cameron Stalling had what had started out to be a fantastic battle building in the Kids 90cc atv class. Both were mounted on very fast DRX machines and pushing hard for the win when Stalling suffered a broken axle spindle causing him to have to disengage from the battle for first. Aguon went on to cruise in for first with Stalling limping it to second place.

50cc Kids atv race action saw the younger Stalling Gavin take the win over Derin Aguon. Both participants were racing on the DRX atv machines.

JR Cepeda took the top spot on the victory podium in the 85cc kids mini bike class aboard his Kawasaki that is supported by the House of Chin Fee. Cepeda beat out second place finisher team Cycles Plus racer Ricco Pereira and third place finisher who is in his rookie season Suzuki mounted Frank Jr. Vawter.

In the final class of the event Suzuki mounted Open Atv racer Kelly Simpson and RPM Yamaha rider Keara Bucek were in pursuit on the long course of vet rider Robert Bucek for the win in the Open atv class. Simpson took second with the Yamaha mounted Keara Bucek placing third giving the old man the win.

The next scheduled event for the Guam International Raceway Motorcycle and Atv Corporation will be held this coming Sunday out in the main parking lot of the GIR. The scheduled event is round 2 of the Supermoto and Scooter Racing Series. Racing is scheduled to start at noon and is free for those who want to come to watch. GIRMAC

Round 1 Supermoto Racing Series

 Details/story

The islands fans were treated to something new as the Guam International Raceway Motorcycle & Atv Corporation or GIRMAC held its first scheduled round of a ten round Supermoto Racing Series this past Sunday out at the Guam International Raceway. The course was a twisting tight tarmac layout that gave for tight elbow to elbow racing. For all but the Open Atv class this first round for safety reasons was confined just to the asphalt portions of the main parking lot. The Open Atvs who have had plenty of competition experience having competed in the DDX event held back in December were using a longer course which included both a dirt section full of jumps and bumps and also an asphalt section that saw the four wheeled motorcycles sliding through the turns. Spectators were asked to pay a $1. park fee which will be placed in a fund to be used to pay for future replacement safety equipment.

In the Mini bike class which was open to all ages Tomas Pangelinan jumped out to an early lead with a group of racers in hot pursuit. The racing was close for all of the ten laps run. Jay Santos took the win with Dennis Quinnones taking second and Gener Lumbre placing third.

In the Open Motorcycle class Peter Alvarez jumped out front and led for nearly every lap to take the win with Caleb Barretto taking the second place position and Ben Loeb running a small bike took third out of the field ten.

In the Open atv class two female competitors Keara Bucek aboard the Team RPM Yamaha Yfz 450 along with Kelly Simpson aboard her Suzuki Ltr 450 each took turns out front leading the men but it was the old man of the class Robert Bucek racing for the Cycles Plus Shell V-Power team on their Suzuki Ltr 450 who finally found the speed to take the win. Keara Bucek took second with Kelly Simpson taking 3rd.

The next scheduled Supermoto event will be held on March 22nd and will be once again located at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo.

2009 Guam Motocross Championships round 1

Motocross racers were flying high this past Sunday at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo during the first of ten rounds scheduled for the 2009 Guam Motocross Championships that is put on by the Guam International Raceway Motorcycle and Atv Club or GIRMAC. Enthusiasts of all ages racing in respective classes that included both motorcycles and atv’s enjoyed a full day of racing under sunny skies and dry track conditions.

Results and high lights:

In the Open Motorcycle class at the start of the heat Jesse Clokey powered his Honda CR250f to the front of the pack heading into the sharp left hand first turn with a pack of hungry riders swarming behind him. Clokey during the opening first few laps was being challenged almost immediately by Tye Lizama aboard the Cycles Plus Kawasaki KX250f but showed he had the game to keep the lead for at least the first few opening laps. Lizama who was testing Clokey for the lead had his own challenge from behind in the form of the very fast Yamaha youngster Errol Angoco who was aboard an YZF250. Angoco was putting the pressure on Lizama for second who in turn was testing Clokey for the lead with all three riders just inches apart as they navigated around the course launching over 15 feet up into the air and flying distances at times of over 50 feet. The crowd of fans, family, and race support teams were all on their feet watching what had quickly developed into an epic battle for the win. The crowd went wild as a rush of cheers and screams let out from the fans as Lizama put a stamp on the lead making the pass on Clokey over a high flying section of the course and over the biggest jump on the track. Both riders could have hugged each other they were that close mid air going through the high flying section but it was Lizama aboard the Kawasaki that was able to put the power down on the ground where it most counted to take the lead from Clokey. Once Lizama had made the pass the Yamaha mounted Angoco who was sensing blood also made quick work of Clokey to drop the Honda rider back to third. Angoco wasn’t ready to just except second place as he throttled it up a notch taking his speed and the race for first to another higher level. Lizama knew Angoco was closing up fast and was also taking his race to a faster higher place in hopes of getting to the checkered flag before the hungry Angoco. With just a lap to go Lizama still leading had Angoco just behind him and pulling up next to him you could almost see his fangs at times to make a challenge to bite the win away on the last lap. But Lizama with Angoco so close and biting at the lead seemed to be relaxed and in control as he twisted up the speed without panicking to take the first win in the 2009 Guam Motocross Championships. Angoco finished a very close second with Clokey keeping third. Taking fourth was Mike Limtiaco, fifth place went to Larry Limtiaco, sixth was John Limtiaco and taking seventh was Paul Sweeney.

The Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Off Road Park located within the Guam International Raceway in Yigo was glowing red this past Saturday night under the bright lights and the flying dirt and dust as the official 2009 motorcycle and atv racing season had roared into life. In the Open Motorcycle class which is a class of full sized motocross bikes former Guam Champion Mike Limtiaco took the early lead to go on to sweep both heat races to take the win aboard a Kawasaki KFX 450. Staying close was team Cycles Plus mounted Jonathan Tye Lizama who was racing aboard a new KFX 250 took second place. Taking third was Shawn Aguilo who was followed by Larry Limtiaco in fourth and Julian Santos rounding out the top 5.

In the Open Atv class it was a Suzuki top three sweep as Team Cycles Plus Shell Guam rider Robert Bucek took the win in both heats aboard a Suzuki Ltr 450, taking a fourth and a second place in the heats for second overall was Female competitor Kelly Simpson and with his third and fourth place finishes Karl Fukuda took third overall. The third and final round of the RPM Yamaha and Cycles Plus Kawasaki Summer Motocross Championship was held this past Sunday August 24th  at the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Offroad Park located within the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. The three round series saw several atv classes as well as the motorcycle Open Expert class a class for those racers who have proven to be the top motocross riders on island.

Ty Lizama a regular to the scene of motocross racing on Guam racing aboard the Kawasaki Kfx 250 swept all three rounds of the series over former Guam motocross champions Mike Limtiaco and Larry Limtiaco who were making their reintroduction to the sport after a decade and a half break. Mike and Larry Limtiaco showed they still had the speed to challenge up at the front dicing it up with the leader in early laps but that a little more seat time will be required to sustain the winning pace to take that top position of the podium. Ty Lizama was awesome while taking the championship flying over and tearing up the course all the while looking smooth and deliberate in his actions. The Limtiaco brothers were a huge surprise and rode like the former Guam champions that they are and looking determined enough to challenging in the near future for yet another championship. Mike Limtiaco took second overall in the series with brother Larry taking third.

In the 90cc Atv Junior class a class designated for those 9 years and younger aboard 75cc to 110cc four wheeled atv’s Cameron Stalling collected his very first championship aboard his Suzuki LT 90. Stalling was consistent and fast during his races over the more experienced riders of 6 year old Raven Girgan on her Polaris who took second overall in the championship and hard charging Kawasaki Kfx 80 rider Jose Simpson who had taken the win during the second round of the series bur was only able to acculate enough points in the series to garnish third overall.

Kelly Simpson took her Suzuki Ltr 450 to a complete sweep of the three round series. Simpson who seemed to fly further and go faster after each lap made it look easy as she took the championship in that class. Keara Bucek racing for Team RPM Yamaha on a YFZ 450 took second overall using racing in the championship to help improve her skills. Taking third was Steven Ely who had been plagued with mechanical issues during round two of the series.

Other top finishers were double class winner Janissa Torres taking first in both the 50cc and 70cc atv class and Dylan Aguon who took the championship in the 90cc Kids Atv senior class a class for those children 10 years and older.

The next scheduled event to be held at the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Offroad Park will be two Motocross 101 events the first to be held on September 14th and the second event on September 26th . Easy closed course layouts along with smaller novice classes and with an emphasis on family involvement in the safe operations of an event make this an ideal event perfect for the first time or beginner racer and their family of supporters to become involved in the exciting sport of motorcycle and atv racing.

Round 2 of the 3 round RPM Yamaha and Cycles Plus Kawasaki Summer Motocross Championship series took place this past Sunday August 17th at the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Offroad Park in Yigo. Mother nature had opened up her skies to rain for several days prior to Sundays event creating what started out as a mud flinging event. Participation numbers were low most likely due to the wet weather but the high flying side by side action was still in abundance as those hearty enough took the slick mud infested course to do battle.

The Open Motorcycle Expert class which is a class for advanced riders on machines with engine sizes 125cc and up hit the track first. Former Guam motocross champion #10 Mike Limtiaco aboard a Kawasaki Kx250f  who had just returned to racing after 17 years took an early lead over #7 Ty Lizama running in second who was the round 1 winner in the championship and in the third place position #25 Larry Limtiaco who is also a former Guam Motocross champion who along with his younger brother Mike have just returned to racing after many years. Ty Lizama put the pressure on Mike early but Mike being a little rust was showing once more that he wasn’t going to be an easy pass. The two battled back and forth for several laps until eventually stamina may have played a part as Lizama took a big triple jump flying high over Limtiaco to take the lead and then proceed to put distance to the finish between himself and the rest of the competition. Mike Limtiaco took second with his older brother Larry Limtiaco taking the third place podium position.

In the Open Atv class #420 Steven Ely racing a Yamaha Yfz 450 atv jumped up front along with #14 Kelly Simpson on a Suzuki Ltr 450 in hot pursuit and team Rpm Yamaha mounted #99 Keara Bucek running in third. Simpson was putting pressure on Ely who was having some mechanical problems which caused him to retire from the race early leaving Simpson and Bucek to duel it out for the win. At the checkers it was all the Cycles Plus team rider Kelly Simpson taking her second overall win in as many races with Bucek taking second and Ely third.

In the 90cc Kids Atv junior class a class for 75cc to 90cc atvs and with kids 9 years and younger Kawasaki mounted #11 Jose Simpson  who had broken his machine in round one to finish third took the win in round 2 over the high flying #37 Cameron Stalling aboard a Suzuki who placed second with Polaris team DJR rider Raven Girgan who placed third.

Round 3 will be held this upcoming Sunday starting at 1pm at the the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Offroad Park in Yigo and will be once again free for those who want to come out to watch.

Summer Motocross Championship Series Round 1: The Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Offroad Park located in Yigo at the Guam International Raceway was the venue this past Sunday to the first of a three round RPM Yamaha & Cycles Plus Kawasaki sponsored Summer Motocross Championship Series. Under ideal weather conditions the kids classes once again may have dominated the field of competition but former Guam motocross champions and brothers Mike and Larry Limtiaco racing in the Open Expert Motorcycle class grabbed much attention as they participated in their first event since the early 1990’s.

Class High lights and results In the Open Motorcycle Expert class the now 34 year old and former Guam motocross champion #10 Mike Limtiaco aboard a Kawasaki Kx250f who had last raced motocross 17 years ago just prior to heading off to attend the University of Hawaii lunged his machine from behind the start gate to take the early lead. Limtiaco was followed closely by Ty Lizama also aboard a Kx 250f and another former champion and older brother #25 Larry Limtiaco. Larry Limtiaco aboard a Kawasaki Kx 450f who had won his last Guam motocross championship back in 1988 or 20 years ago was competing once again for the first time in nearly 14 years and was looking smooth and relaxed in third. Up front the battle for first was building as Ty Lizama began his assault for the lead on the former Guam motocross legend Mike Limtiaco. To Mike Limtiaco credit being his first motocross event in nearly 17 years he didn’t just let the fast Lizama easily take the lead but instead put on a hard determined ride to hold onto the lead. Ty Lizama riding flawlessly eventually was to much for the rusty former champ wearing down and making the pass to take the lead and the eventual win. Mike Limtiaco who finished second never backed off and along with his older brother Larry who finished in third had both showed the skill and determination that had made them Guam Motocross champions and a little of what made them the dominating force in motocross on Guam during the 1980’s and into the early 1990’s. In the 50cc Kids Atv class #8 Janissa Torres racing for the GTR team aboard a DRX swept the class to take first over second and third place finishers of Gavin Stalling on a Suxuki Lt 50 taking second and Derin Aguon aboard his DRX 50 taking third. In the 70cc Kids Atv class it was once again Janissa Torres racing for the GTR team on a DRX 70 taking the win with Daeven Aguon placing second. The 90cc Kids Atv Junior division a class for kids nine years of age or younger #37 Cameron Stalling took his Suzuki up to the front to take the win over Polaris mounted Raven Girgan who placed second and Kawasaki mounted Jose Simpson who took third place The 90cc Kids Atv Senior class a class for those kids ten years and older #33 Dylan Aguon came from behind to take the win on a DRX 90 followed by Ramon Torres who placed second. In the Open Atv class the Cycles Plus and mom and dad sponsored Suzuki Ltr 450 mounted #14 Kelly Simpson took the win with RPM Yamaha rider Keara Bucek taking second on the Yamaha Yfz 450.

The second round of the RPM Yamaha & Cycles Plus Kawasaki sponsored Summer Motocross Championship series will be held this Sunday August 17th starting at 1pm at the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Offroad Park located in Yigo at the Guam International Raceway and will be free of charge to those who would like to come and watch. July 6th & 20th 2008 Summer Fun MX

Summer Fun Motocross was back on the race track in action out at the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Offroad Park located in Yigo this past Sunday under hot and sunny weather conditions. The racing was very competitive with non stop action dominated by the many kids classes competing. The Summer Fun Motocross events were scheduled in which there was three in order to give those enthusiasts an opportunity to keep up on their skills while the Guam Moto-X Championship Series is on hiatus for the summer. The three summer events were also scheduled with the new or first time racer in mind with intro classes being supported for all those who want to give the sport of motocross a try at a just for fun level of competition. Several new riders took to the competition like seasoned vets as several finished top positions in their respective classes.

In the 50cc kids atv class Janissa Torres on a Drx 50 led from start to finish completely displaying her dominance in that class. Taking second was Suzuki Lt 50 mounted Gavin Stalling competing in only his second ever competition. Gavin was followed by first time participant Derin Aguon who was riding a Drx 50.

In the kids Junior Mini Mid Atv class a class for machines with engine sizes of between 52cc and 110cc and for children 9 years of age or younger Cameron Stalling on a Suzuki Lt 90 and racing in only his second event ever took that classes win by coming from behind to eventually take the lead and the win. Taking second was Daevon Aguon on a Drx 70 and he was followed by Polaris mounted DJR Racing team rider Raven Girgan who placed third and Kawasaki Kfx 80 racer Jose Simpson who took fourth.

In the 90cc Kids Senior Atv class a class for kids 10 years and over the rivalry that was born during a competition held two weeks ago between  Drx 90 participants Ramon Torres and Dylan Aguon was back. Aguon who took the win on his red #33 Drx two weeks ago jumped out to an early lead but was being challenged by Ramon Torres on his now signature white #8 Drx machine at every opportunity. Almost immediately and during the first lap of the race Torres took the lead and began to pull away as Aguon in his attempt to retake the lead made small mistakes losing time and allowing for Torres to put some distance between them. Going into the second half of the race Aguon seemed to have found an edge and reeled Torres in close enough to put on a challenge for the lead. With just two laps left the youngster Aguon went for the pass on Torres letting it all hang out as he threw his Drx 90 completely and utterly sideways at full throttle in his attempt of retaking the lead from Torres through a high speed sweeping corner. As Aguon was completely sideways and the crowd on hand gasping he began a four wheeled drift that caused his machine to high side and catapult itself and Aguon through the air and out of contention. Aguon who was unhurt in the incident got up and still received second place while Torres was able to cruise the last two laps for the win.

In the final race of the Summer Fun Motocross the Open Atv machines put on a roaring high speed display of sideways racing as Kelly Simpson on her #14 Suzuki Ltr 450 and Kark Fukuda also on a Suzuki Ltr 450 battled for the overall win. Simpson managed to lead for half the race but it was Karl Fukuda racing only in his third event ever who took the overall win. Simpson took second while #73 Yamaha mounted Anthony Gumabon placed third with Yamaha mounted #99 Keara Bucek took fouth.

An awards ceremony was held immediately following the event where participants were recognized and trophies provided by DJR Racing were presented by Dan and Jennifer Girgan to all the kids who had participated in the kids classes.

The next scheduled motocross event to be held at the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Offroad Park is tentatively scheduled to begin at 1pm on Sunday August 10th and will be the first of a summer series championship event. For more information visit www.AtvMotocrossGuam.com or call Guam Racing Federation Public Information Officer Robert Bucek at 727-5381.

The Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Offroad Park located within the Guam International Raceway in Yigo played host once again this past Sunday July 6th   to another scheduled Summer Fun Motocross event. The scheduled summer motocross events were planned to allow those island enthusiasts competing in this years Guam Moto-X Championships a venue to keep their skills sharp through competition while the Guam Championship series is on a summer break in its ten round series. The event was also scheduled to allow first time enthusiasts and or first time motorcycle or atv classes a venue to compete in an organized event.

Mother nature was once more favorable as the conditions were excellent for racing this past Sunday beginning with the 50cc Atv class. #29 AJ Windham on a DRX took an early lead and went on to take the 50cc win over #8 Janissa Torres aboard a DRX and third place finisher and first time racer Gavin Stalling on a Suzuki Lt 50.

In the 70cc Atv class #8 Janissa Torres racing in her second atv class of the day took a well earned first place over second place finisher Annanea Pitter and third place enthusiast Daeven Aguon. All three were aboard racing the DRX 70 atv.

The 90cc Atv class was divided into two separate age classes the 9 years and under and the ten years and over to allow for a better and safer competition. In the nine years and under #29 AJ Windham battled his 90cc DRX atv up to the front to take his second class win of that event. Taking second place was DJR team rider #83 Raven Girgan aboard a Polaris. Third place honors went to Jose Simpson with first time racer Cameron Stalling aboard a Suzuki Lt 90 finishing in fourth.

The 90cc ten years and over atv class saw a rivalry develop between the 2008 undefeated class competitor Ramon Torres on his signature white #9 DRX 90 and rookie sensation #33 Dylan Aguon also aboard a DRX 90 but red in color. At the start it was all Aguon as he swept through the first turn sideways but leading kicking a rooster tail of dirt and debris up into the path of the very close and motivated king on the class Ramon Torres. Torres managed to take the lead after several laps but going into the final or second half of the event Dylan Aguon found himself once more up in the front and leading. It all came down to the checkers as both were not giving up until they reached the finish. In a cloud of dust and with motors at full throttle both competitors crossed the finish with Aguon #33 red DRX machine taking their very first overall win.

In the final race of the event the Open Atv’s took to the course where Donavan Pitter and Kelly Simpson put on a great race for the lead with Donavan on a Honda TRX 450 taking the win Simpson on a Suzuki Ltr 450 taking second and Karl Fukuda finishing third aboard his Suzuki Ltr 450.

The next scheduled Summer Fun Motocross event will be held on Sunday July 20th at the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Offroad Park in Yigo. June 28th Summer Moto-X  #1

This past Sunday June 22nd the motocross track located at the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Offroad Park in Yigo was the venue for the first of a several Summer Motocross events scheduled. The summer events were scheduled in order to give those enthusiasts an opportunity to keep up on their skills while the Guam Moto-X Championship Series is on hiatus for the summer. The summer events were also scheduled with the new or first time racer in mind with intro classes being supported for all those who want to give the sport of motocross a try.

Motocross racing is well known throughout the world as an all weather motorsport and Guam racers just as the rest the world are no exception unless the island goes into a severe storm warning the race goes on. True racers are measured not on how they perform in perfect conditions but on how they persevere and succeed in those less than perfect conditions. During the first summer moto-x event the atv’s from team Guam Trail Riders who’s ages ranged from 5 years of age up to well in their 30s somewhere and about and included both male and female participants.

With the rain falling all morning throughout the island many of the islands motocross racers decided that the conditions were probably not going to be all that great and would be just to muddy to have fun so they didn’t even come out to participate. Unfortunately for those riders that did not come out for the track was dry and tacki which was perfect for racing.  For reasons unkown mother nature all but drowned the rest of the island this past Sunday but spared the motocross track. Not a single puddle, tacki and no dust the racing was incredible and some of the most fun had by those racing yet this year.

In the first event the 70cc kids atv class Janissa Torres took an early lead with Annanea Pitter close behind challenging for the lead. Running in third was Daven Aguon who was getting faster and faster as the race wore on. At the checkers it was Janissa Torres on the Drx 70 taking the win followed by drx mounted Annanea Pitter in second and Daven Aguon in third.

In the 90cc kids atv class another Torres was dominating this time it was Ramon Torres the brother of 70cc atv winner Janissa Torres. Ramon on a Drx 90 had to work for this win with Dylan Aguon also on a Drx 90 taking the lead for a while until Torres was able to make the pass and hold the lead to the checkers for the win. Dylan Aguon took second place while Polaris racer Raven Girgan placed third.

In the Open atv class Anthony Costa pounced out of the gate at the start to take an early lead aboard his Kawasaki 450. Chasing Costa down but coming all the way from last position was Donavan Pitter the son of the 1985 and very first Guam Atv Champion Roberto Pitter. Donavan sliced his way through the field of competitors and within just a few laps was side by side with Costa battling and bumping into and out of each corner both trying to take and control the lead. At the end it was Donavan Pitter taking the win with Anthony Costa taking a very close second place. Third went to Suzuki Ltr 450 mounted Karl Fukuda. Fourth was Lester Aguon who had a great and close race with fifth place finisher Dan Girgan who was racing incredibly a Utility atv.

The next Summer Moto-X event will be held on Sunday July 6th at the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Offroad Park in Yigo. Racer registration will be from 1pm to 2pm with racing set to begin at 3pm.
