For more information contact Robert Bucek 727-5381

Guam’s top motocross racers were once again bumping elbows and chewing up the motocross track at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo this past Sunday during the third round of the ten round Monster Energy 2011 Guam Motocross Championship series. The series that is also supported by Cycles Plus Honda and RPM Yamaha saw this past Sundays weather as being perfect for a full day of racing and with a strong field of competitors the action was non stop all day long. Free to everyone to come out and watch with the racing kicking off at 1pm and concluding at just about 5pm.

 Race Highlights
HEAT 1. The Open Motorcycle class was the first to hit the jump filled motocross course for the first of their two heat races. When the green flag dropped signifying the land rush start to the first turn it was #99 Caleb Barretto aboard the Cycles Plus Honda taking the lead over #27 Travis Fraunfelder aboard a Yamaha who was immediately challenging Barretto hard for the lead. As the two up front fought for it for the lead #7 Jonathan Lizama running in third aboard a Cycles Plus Kawasaki was getting the pressure by last weeks Umatac Discovery Day Motocross winner #14 Errol Angoco aboard his Yamaha for that third place position. After the first lap was complete it was Barretto barely holding off the challenges of Fraunfelder for the lead and Lizama doing his best to stave off the attempts of Angoco to take third. Going into the third of the 14 lap race Fraufelder went down and was out of the race which left Lizama and Angoco now fighting for second in which Angoco was able to make the move to take the position. For the next several laps Angoco with Lizama in tow poured the power on in an attempt to catch the leader Barretto and seemed to be slowly reeling him in. Just as it appeared as if Angoco was going to catch the leader Angoco made a small mistake which not only saw him lose time to the leader but lose the second place position to Lizama. At the checkers it was Barretto taking the heat 1 round 3 win with Lizama and Angoco taking second and third respectively. Rounding out the top five respectively were #53 Tom Tarnate aboard a Kawasaki and #33 Jake Jones aboard a Triple J supported Honda.

HEAT 2. Missing from the starting line of the second and final Open Motorcycle heat of the day was the heat one winner #99 Caleb Barretto. The Cycles Plus supported Honda rider had to leave early and was unable to compete in the second heat. As the green flag dropped the Yamaha mounted #14 Errol Angoco quickly took charge by grabbing the first lap lead. Once Again #27 Travis Fraunfelder was challenging for the lead aboard his Yamaha and this time made the pass taking the lead from Angoco on the second lap. Angoco wasn’t giving up and hounded Fraunfelder keeping the pressure on until on the sixth lap Fraunfelder again went down and was out of the race. This gave Angoco a huge lead over the rest of the field of competitors. Running in second was #7 Jonathan Lizama aboard the Cycles Plus Kawasaki seemingly on cruise control content with a second heat second place finish. At the checkers it was Angoco taking the win and combined with his third place first heat finish was declared the overall Open Motorcycle class round 3 of the series winner. Rounding out the top ten overall for round 3 respectively were #7 Jonathan Lizama Cycles Plus Kawasaki, #33/ Jake Jones Triple J supported Honda, #53 Tom Tarnate Kawasaki, #111 Jacob Einloth Honda, #5 Shawn Aguilo Cycles Plus Kawasaki, #94/ Bryan Barker Yamaha, #99 Caleb Barretto Cycles Plus Honda, #52 David Yamasta Yamaha, #88 Antonio Cabe RPM Yamaha supported Yamaha.

Round 2 of ten Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships
For more information contact Robert Bucek at 727-5381

On Sunday February 27th at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo with the wind gusting and an overwhelming sound of roaring off road machines a large crowd of race fans gathered free of any charge along side a jump infested motocross track. The crowd had gathered all in anticipation of the start of round 2 of the ten round Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships series. The series includes both atv and motorcycle classes of all ages and sizes and seems as popular with women competitors as with the men.

Race Highlights
Open Motorcycle Class HEAT 1
With the crowd lining the track armed with cameras and cell phones all aimed at a pack of throttled up open class motorcrosser’s who were set for the start of the first of two heats the green flagged was dropped. Sprinting their way up the 75 yard straight into the first turn like a wall of snarling rhino’s #99 Caleb Barretto aboard a Cycles Plus Honda took command of the herd of stampeding motorcycles. As the dirt and dust settled after the first turn it was Barretto out front with Triple J supported #33 Jake Jones aboard his Honda in second and #7 Jonathan Tye Lizama aboard a Kawasaki in third. Running in the top five were #53 Tom Tarnate in fourth and RPM Yamaha’s #4 Quirino Cabe in fifth. As the first several laps went by the leader Barretto was able to extend his lead leaving all the real action for position happening behind him. The first rider to strike was #7 Lizama the Cycles Plus team rider made quick work on the younger rider of Jake Jones to slip himself past and into the second place position. On the following lap Quirino Cabe launched his powerful Yamaha 450 past the #53 of Tom Tarnate to take over fourth place. Half way into the heat the top five settled into rhythm but in no way was the racing over as sixth through twelfth place were just starting to get their fight going. The biggest mover was the RPM Yamaha supported team rider #88 Antonio Cabe who moved his way from ninth place up to the sixth place position all within a 3 lap period. At the finish of heat one it was the red machine of Barretto in first, Lizama in second, and Jones in third.

Open Motorcycle Class HEAT 2
At the start of heat two a crowd had once again made their way to the sides of the track in anticipation, cameras aimed, of the start of the open class. The big guns of the two wheeled class didn’t disappoint when the green flag dropped as yet another wall of motorcycles rushed itself into the first turn. Once again it was the Cycles Plus team rider’s of #99 Caleb Barretto on the Honda and #7 Jonathan Tye Lizama aboard a Kawasaki up front with Triple J’s #33 Jake Jones on a Honda in hot pursuit. Making it through in the top five were Kawasaki mounted #53 Tom Tarnate and #111 Jacob Einloth aboard a Honda running forth and fifth respectively. Charging hard and paying the price were the Cabe brothers of #4 Quirino and #88 Antonio as Quirino was forced to retire with a flat front tire and his brother Antonio had crashed hard and out while pushing for the fifth place position. As the laps counted down it was once again Barretto taking the win with Lizama in second and Jones in third.

Open Class Overall Results
With a win in both of the two heats #99 Honda mounted Caleb Barretto takes the round two overall win. With Barretto’s second place overall in round one he assumes the points lead for the Open Motorcycle class with eight rounds remaining. Second place overall for round two went #7 Jonathan Tye Lizama aboard the Kawasaki, third was #33 Jake Jones on the Triple J supported Honda. Taking fourth for the round was #53 Tom Tarnate on his Kawasaki with fifth overall going to Honda mounted #111 Jacob Einloth. Rounding out the rest of the top ten overall respectively were #94 Bryan Barker on aYamaha,

#5 Shawn Aguilo team Cycles Plus Kawasaki, #15 Matt Guzman on a Honda, #52 David Yamasta aboard a Yamaha, and #47 Tyanna Cruz on a Kawasaki.

Open Atv Highlights HEAT 1
The ground shook as the quads of the Open Atv class launched off the start and tore its way through the first turn that leads into the rest of the course. Taking the lead from the first turn was #1 Robert Bucek aboard a Cycles Plus Suzuki Ltr450. Bucek quickly put distance on the rest of the field once more leaving the fighting all for second place. The fight for second was to develop into a good one as #20 Travis Joaquin aboard a Suzuki was being pressured by none other than his own father #5 Jerry Joaquin aboard a Pine Rental Honda and #6 Donavan Pitter also aboard a Honda. The three riders were going at it hard with the very exciting Travis Joaquin doing his best to ward off the assaults put forth by his dad Jerry and the hungry Donavan Pitter. Their battle was keeping the crowd lining the track and encouraging their favorite. Be it experience or just better stamina but the older Joaquin Jerry showed the kid how its done as he slipped past to take the second place position with four laps still remaining. At the finish it was Bucek in first, Jerry Joaquin in second, with Travis Joaquin in third. Rounding out the top five was Donavan Pitter in fourth and #03 Andrew Painter in fifth aboard a GTR Motorsports supported Kawasaki.

 Open Atv Highlights HEAT 2
#1 Robert Bucek once again demonstrated how to take a lead and run away with the race as he easily took the second heat lead leaving the fight once again left for second place position. #20 Travis Joaquin after being schooled by his father in heat one was bound and determined to take and hold the now much coveted second place position. The younger Joaquin was on fire flying and muscling his way around the course giving no one or no obstacle no quarter as he put down the laps. The battle then became for third place as the older Joaquin aboard the #5 Pine rental supported Honda and the #6 of Donavan Pitter also aboard a Honda fought for it for third. Early on it appeared as if Joaquin was going to be able to hold the position but as the race was getting nearer to completion the hungry Honda mounted Donavan Pitter shot through and past to take the third place position. At the checkers it was Bucek in first, Travis Joaquin in second, and Donavan Pitter in third.

Open Atv Overall Results
With a solid sweep in both heats #1 Robert Bucek aboard the Cycles Plus Suzuki takes the round two overall win. Bucek extended his points lead after two rounds run and eight still remaining in the Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships. Taking second for the round was #20 Travis Joaquin aboard a Suzuki with his father Jerry Joaquin taking third overall for the round aboard the Pine Rental backed Honda Trx450. Fourth overall went to #6 Donavan Pitter aboard his Honda with fifth going to #10 Shane Reyes on the Aloha Maid supported Kawasaki. Rounding out the rest of the top ten overall respectively were #03 Andrew Painter team GTR Motorsports aboard a Kawasaki, Suzuki mounted #16 Jeremiah Shelton, #14 Sade Pitter aboard a Simpson family owned Suzuki, #7 Marcus Guerrero jr. on a Pine Rental supported Suzuki, and #22 Duce Romias aboard a Honda.

Minibike Overall Results and highlights
In the Open Minibike class #14 Yamaha mounted Anthony Ignacio had to work as #111 Rico Pereira on a Honda and #1 JR Cepeda were hot on his wheels. The trio bumped and rubbed with Ignacio dominating, Pereira crashing out, and Cepeda also crashing with Ignacio with both going down. Ignacio was first to his feet and quickly was back into the race without so much as losing a single position. Cepeda stayed down a bit longer but eventually remounted and was back into the race. #14 Anthony Ignacio took the win with #10 Robit Casper Cabe aboard his Suzuki just edging out Cepeda for second, Cepeda took third. Fourth went to #12 Andrew Ignacio aboard a Yamaha with fifth place going to #4 Rowan Pereira aboard a Kawasaki.

Kids Open Atv Mini Results and highlights
To the sound of cheering parents, friends and relatives the kids of the Open Atv Mini took to the track. Looking like he was carrying the speed to run with the big guns of the four wheeled class #9 Ramon Torres took his Haul Pro Apex 90 and just hauled it to take first. Torres who nearly lapped the entire field of competitors cleared some jumps that some bigger quad racers had yet to attempt. Taking second place was #6 Stoney Bucek aboard a Simpson family owned DRX, third went to #18 Isaiah Reyes aboard an Aloha Maid supported DRX, fourth was #11 Jose Simpson aboard a DRX. Simpsons fourth place finish along with his round 1 result moved him into the Kids Open Atv Mini class points lead after two rounds with eight still remaining. Fifth place was #88 Janissa Torres aboard a Haul Pro DRX. Rounding out the rest of the top ten overall respectively were #49 Mason Manglona aboard a DRX, #8 Aubrey Taimanglo on a DRX, #3 Bernabe Guerrero on a Pine Rental supported DRX, #5 Collin Ray Cruz aboard a DRX, and #16 Luke Reyes team Aloha Maid aboard a DRX.

Round 1 of ten Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships
For more information contact Robert Bucek at 727-5381

The first of the scheduled ten round Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships series kicked off this past Sunday at the Guam International Raceway under ideal weather and track conditions. Motocross racers from around the island competed in two heats in respective classes that ranged from kids 50cc mini bike and atvs classes all the way up to the big bikes and atv’s of the open classes. The event was free for everyone who wanted to watch all the high flying side by side bar banging action with the racing having started at 1pm and ending at just about 5pm.

Race highlights
Heat 1 of 2 Open Motorcycle class
In the Open Motorcycle class new comer #27 Travis Frawnfelder aboard a Yamaha Yzf 450 spat himself up to an early lead launching and twisting his big blue machine through the air over the many jumps that make up the course. Following behind the high flying Frawnfelder was a pack of Guam’s best motocrosser’s that included #99 Caleb Barretto aboard his RMZ450 Suzuki running in the second place position and defending Guam 450cc champ #11 Michael Limtiaco in third who was breathing down Barretto’s rear wheel hot and heavy. Behind the lead trio saw #33 Jake Jones aboard his Triple J supported Honda Crf250 and #53 Tom Tarnate doing battle for the fourth place position. Just out of the top five #94 Bryan Barker aboard his Yamaha Yzf450 went down as he worked his way through the rhythm section of the course while attempting to improve on his position. Barker was able to limp off and out of contention under his own power having suffered sprain in his back. In the meantime #88 Antonio Cabe, #111 Jacob Einloth and #5 Shawn Aguilo was packed together all battling for the 6th, 7th, and 8th position. By midway into the heat the leader Frawnfelder had managed to pull away from the battling Limtiaco and Barretto who were still at times elbow to elbow in their battle for the second place position. The rest of the field had strung themselves out settling in for the final push to the finish with Jones, Tarnate, Einloth, Cabe, and Aguilo running 4th through 8th respectively. At the finish Frawnfelder took an easy heat 1 win with Limtiaco making a last lap pass on Barretto to take 2nd with Barretto 3rd. Jones took 4th with Tarnate taking 5th. Einloth, Cabe and Aguilo finished 6th through 8th respectively in the heat.

Heat 2 of 2 Open Motorcycle class
At the start of the second and final heat as all the riders lined up for the Open Motorcycle class it became quickly apparent to all that the heat 1 winner #27 Yamaha mounted Travis Frawnfelder was not on the line ready to compete nor could he be located in the pit area. This left the track marshal no other choice but to start the heat with out him. One man’s loss is another ones gain as Michael Limtiaco aboard his Pacific Trucking supported Kawasaki Kxf450 was ready and willing to take full advantage of the absentee Frawnfelder. Limtiaco powered into the lead with Barretto in tow. The two leaders quickly put distance on the rest of the field who were now battling for 3rd. As the laps wound down it appeared the reigning 450 champ Limtiaco had found his groove and had firmly taken command of the race easily taking the second heat win thereby giving him the overall round win in class. Taking second in the heat and for the round was the consistent and smooth Barretto. 3rd in the heat and 3rd overall in class was Jake Jones. After two heats Tarnate, Cabe, Einloth, Aguilo, Frawnfelder and Barker placed 4th through 9th overall respectively for the round in class.

Overall class highlights and results
Open Atv
The Open atv class saw a full field of competitors all battling for the championship. Fifteen time Guam Atv champ #1 Robert Bucek at the start once again took his Cycles Plus Suzuki Ltr450 right to the front of the field where he checked off laps until taking the win in each of the two heats run for the round. #20 Jerry Joaquin also aboard a Suzuki Ltr450 was the closest competitor to Bucek and was able to secure a strong 2nd in each of two heats to take second overall in class for the round. Taking 3rd overall was second generation Guam Atv competitor #6 Sade Pitter aboard a Honda Trx450. Rounding out the top five in class overall were #5 Marcus Guerrero aboard a Pine rental supported Honda Trx450 taking 4th place with 5th place going to the youngster #14 Travis Joaquin aboard a Simpson family Suzuki Ltr450. Just outside the top five overall #03 Anthony Costa on his GTR Motorsports supported Kawasaki Kfx450 secured the 6th place position with Aloha Maid supported rider #10 Shane Reyes taking 7th place aboard his Kawasaki Kfx450. The 8th and 9th place positions were earned by Marcus Guerrero Jr. and Duce Romias respectively.

Open Kids Minibike
The youngster were flying and had everyone on their feet as #14 Anthony Ignacio led every lap to take 1st place overall aboard his very fast Yamaha Yz85. Keeping the pressure on and thereby keeping Ignacio honest was the hard charging Kawasaki Kx85 supported by Johnstone Supply of #1 JR Cepeda and Honda Crf150 mounted #11 Rico Pereira. After Pereira and his Honda crashed out of the race Cepeda couldn’t be shaken as he stuck right behind the leader Ignacio’s rear wheel for the entire event at time pulling along side in an attempt to steal away the lead. Cepeda earned a very respectable 2nd place and if round 1 of the series is an indicator of things to come in upcoming rounds the battle between Cepeda and Ignacio only seem to be heating up. Taking third was #98 Marshal Vawters aboard his Suzuki Rm85 and was followed in fourth by #12 Andrew Ignacio aboard a Yamaha Yz85. taking 5th place was #10 Robit Casper Cabe aboard a Suzuki Rm85 with 6th place going to #4 Rowan Pereira aboard a Kawasaki Kx85.

Open Kids Atv Mini
A three way battle for the first place overall in class position ensued between #88 Janissa Torres aboard a Haul Pro supported DRX90, #11 Jose Simpson aboard his DRX90, and #18 Isaiah Reyes on a Aloha Maid supported DRX70. The trio swapped leads on several occasions with Janissa Torres just edging out Jose Simpson by a single point for the overall win. Simpson took 2nd place with a very first time racer Collin Ray Cruz taking 3rd aboard his #5 DRX70. Isaiah Reyes secured 4th place with his younger brother Luke Reyes taking 5th aboard unbelievably a DRX50. 6th through 10th was taken respectively by the following #99 Victoria Clark aboard a Dream Catchers Apex70, #9 Ramon Torres aboard a Haul Pro Apex90, #3 Bernabe Guerrero aboard a Pine rental supported DRX90, #8 Aubrey Tiamanglo aboard her DRX90 and #6 Stoney Bucek aboard a Simpson family DRX70.

Under clear skies and a blazing sun the Guam International Raceway in Yigo was once again the scene of yet another exciting action packed round of the Cycles Plus Honda and RPM Yamaha Monsoon Motocross Series. The series kicked off with round 1 held earlier this year back in September under wet and slick race conditions which had been deemed perfect living up to the series reputation of being held under the wettest of conditions. Guam’s wet tropical weather can be a challenge at times for those local athletes who choose to race in the sport of motocross especially during this particular time of the year which is known as the islands wet or rainy season. This past Sundays round was hot and saw dry course conditions which appeared to have caught many of the competitors of guard in their preparation as the pits were busy with last minute adjustments and repairs by many of the teams after the earlier practice session had been held. After a short delay to allow for adjustments and repairs the action kicked off at just after 2pm to racing that included atv and motorcycle classes ranging from the smaller kids classes to the bigger full powered open class machines for the older more experienced racer’s.

 High Lights

 The Open Motorcycle
The series points leader of the #11 Pacific Trucking supported Kawasaki of Michael Limtiaco once again took an early lead off the start and methodically proceeded to pull away from the rest of the field of competitors on his way to his fifth overall win of the series. #33 Jake Jones supported by Triple J and aboard a Honda Crf250 took second and was the only competitor able to keep the #11 machine of Limtiaco in sight and perhaps within range of a challenge. Taking third in the Open Motorcycle class was #94 Yamaha Yzf450 mounted Bryan Barker who was followed closely by #25 Fleet Services supported Lawrence Limtiaco on his Kawasaki Kxf450 in fourth. #53 Tom Tarnate aboard his own Kawasaki Kxf250 rounded out the top five.

 The Kids 85cc
#1 JR Cepeda supported by Johnstone Supply took his Kawasaki to another first place finish extending points lead and his win streak to three in a row. #111 Jacob Einloth took a very solid second place aboard his Honda Cr85. Frank Marshal Vawters rode smooth to take third rounding out the top 3 on the podium.

 The Open Atv
Rubbing wheels while bumping and banging at the start the big guns of the Open Atv class fought their way around the first turn with team Cycles Plus #1 Robert Bucek and #20 Jerry Joaquin both aboard Suzuki Ltr450 Quadracers side by side and up in front of the field. The two Suzuki mounted riders were charging hard neither willing to give up to the other as they approached the long jump infested section known as the long rhythm straight. Going into the hard left hander that leads into the long rhythm straight Joaquin went a bit to wide allowing the wily vet Bucek to slip by into the lead. Joaquin proceeded to charge after the leader Bucek with both riders picking up the momentum that carried them away from the rest of the field. The Cycles Plus team rider Robert Bucek took the win with Jerry Joaquin taking second.  Placing third was the team RPM Yamaha rider Keara Bucek aboard a Simpson family owned machine. Taking fourth was the #5 Pine Rental supported Marcus Guerrero aboard a Honda Trx450. #3 Tony Costa rounded out the top five aboard his team GTR Motorsports Kawasaki Kfx450.

 The Kids Open Atv
#9 Ramon Torres aboard the Haul Pro Apex90 took another what has become for him easy win as he easily set sail over the jumps pulling away from the competition at will. Taking second was #6 Stoney Bucek aboard a Simpson family owned DRX70. Placing third was #3 Bernabe Guerrero aboard a Pine Rental supported DRX90. Fourth through seventh went to #8 Haul Pro supported DRX mounted Janissa Torres, Team Dream Catchers Racing #83 Raven Girgan aboard her Polaris90,  Team Dream Catchers Racing #99 Victoria Clark aboard an Apex70, and #11 Jose Simpson aboard a CanAm90 respectively.

 Monsoon champions will be crowned!
The seventh and final round of the Cycles Plus Honda and RPM Yamaha Monsoon Motocross Series will take place at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo on Sunday December 12th with the racing action set to begin at 1pm free to the public to come out and watch.  Round 5 of the 7 round Cycles Plus Honda & RPM Yamaha Monsoon Motocross Series took place this past Sunday out at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo and saw action packed racing in both the atv and motorcycles classes. Weather conditions for the race were sunny but the race course was slick after having received a lot of rain earlier that morning. The slick conditions made for great racing which kicked off just before 2pm with the kids atv classes tearing up the slick course.

 Race High Lights-
Kids Open Atv

#9 Ramon Torres aboard his now familiar and proven winning Haul Pro supported Apex 90 once again completely dominated over the rest of the field as the 14 year old never let off as he lapped the entire field of competitors easily taking the win. Taking second and coming all the way from the village of Merizo was #3 Bernabe Guerrero aboard his Pine Rental supported DRX 90. With just two more rounds left in the series Bernabe’s strong and consistent finishes have placed him on top of the point’s standings in the Kids Open Atv class making for what is sure to be a very tight battle between him and Ramon Torres going into those two final rounds. Taking third in the Kids Open Atv class was #6 Stoney Bucek riding the Simpson family owned DRX 70. Fourth went to team Dream Catchers #99 Victoria Clark aboard her teams Apex 70, fifth place went to #11 Jose Simpson aboard his DRX and he was followed by team Dream Catchers #84 Raven Girgan on her Polaris 90 in sixth and Haul Pro supported racer #8 Janissa Torres on her DRX 90.

 Kids 90cc Atv
#9 Ramon Torres took an easy win with Bernabe Guerrero taking second and Raven Girgan placing third. Janissa Torres and Jose Simpson rounded out the top five respectively.

 Kids 70cc Atv
#6 Stoney Bucek had to take a lot of muddy roost from #99 Victoria Clark on his way in taking the 70cc class win. Clark who was riding a very strong race did her best to hold off the persistent Bucek from making the pass but was unable going into the last few laps of the race.

 85cc Kids Minibike
#1 JR Cepeda aboard his Kawasaki Kx85 and #9 Frank Vawters on a Suzuki Rm85 put on a great race with Cepeda taking the win for the second time in the series. Vawters rode strong to place second.

 Open Motorcycle
Triple J supported #33 Jake Jones aboard his Honda Crf 250 has been on fire as of late and round five proved that he is a serious threat out on the track as he took first and moved himself into second place in the overall series standing just behind Pacific Trucking’s own #11 Michael Limtiaco. Taking second was Yamaha Yzf 450 rider #94 Bryan Barker.

 Open Atv
#1 Robert Bucek racing the Cycles Plus Suzuki Ltr450 took the round win with #20 Jerry Joaquin taking second aboard his Suzuki Ltr450 and was followed in third by #16 Jeremiah Shelton also aboard a Suzuki Ltr450 making for a Suzuki top three sweep in the class. Placing fourth was early leader #5 Marcus Guerrero aboard his Pine Rental supported Honda Trx450. Rounding out the top five was fifth place finisher #2 Keara Bucek racing for RPM Yamaha.

Round 4 of 7

Guam’s high flying motocross racers were once again banging bars this past Sunday out at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo during round four of the seven round RPM Yamaha and Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross Series. Under clear sunny skies the motorcycle and atv racers in their respective classes that ranged from kids mini’s to the larger full sized big kids machines took to the jump infested course for a great day of racing. Racing kicked off at shortly after 1:30pm.

The Kids Open Atv class competitors were the first to hit the track and saw yet another dominating performance set by #9 Ramon Torres aboard the Haul Pro supported Apex 90 mini quad. Torres easily out classed the rest of the field powering his machine up and over the many hills and jumps on route to another round sweep. Taking second but having to do it the hard way was #3 Bernabe Guerrero aboard his Pine Rental supported DRX 90. Bernabe had an epic side by side battle for second with #6 Stoney Bucek aboard a Simpson family owned DRX 70. The two atv moto youngster went back and forth each leading over the other on a certain part of the course and were no more than inches apart and at times even banging into one another. This went on lap after lap through out the race with Bernabe Guerrero finally able to pull away to take second from Stoney Bucek who finished third on the final lap. #8 Janessa Torres aboard a DRX 90 took fourth with team Dream Catchers Racing #99 Victoria Clark finishing fifth on her Apex 70 followed by  team mate #83 Raven Girgan aboard a Polaris 90 in sixth.

In the 90cc Kids class the #9 Haul Pro supported Apex 90 of Ramon Torres took first with #3 Bernabe Guerrero on his Pine Rental supported DRX 90 in second. #8 Janessa Torres placed third on her DRX 90 with #83 Raven Girgan taking fourth on her team Dream Catchers supported Polaris 90.

In the 70cc Kids class #6 Stoney Bucek racing aboard the Simpson family owned DRX 70 took first over second place finisher #99 team Dream Catchers Victoria Clark on a Apex 70.

After the kids atv classes had finished the youngsters of the mini bike class had their chance at the track. #1 JR Cepeda on a Kawasaki Kx85 easily cleared the many double and table top jumps on his way to first place and was closely followed at times by #9 Suzuki Rm85 mounted Frank Marshal Vawters in second. The two front runners put on a great show by demonstrating that the smaller machines of the younger riders are more than able to fly as high and as far at times as the bigger full sized machines.

The full sized motocross motorcycles of the Open Motorcycle class were up on the track after the mini bikes had concluded and saw another dominating performance set forth by reigning 450cc champ Michael Limtiaco aboard his #11 Pacific Trucking supported Kawasaki Kxf 450. Michael set a fast pace for the rest of the field to try and follow in which they were unable to match there by easily giving Limtiaco another first place for the series. #25 Lawrence Limtiaco aboard his Fleet Services supported Kawasaki Kxf 450 had to work his way up from the back of the field to take second place away from #33 Jake Jones and #94 Bryan Barker. Jake Jones who had a solid handle on the second place position mid way into the heat aboard his Triple J supported Honda Crf250 had coasted to a stop having run short on fuel. After a quick splash of fuel Jones was back into the race but was unable to make up the positions lost and had was forced to settle for third place for the round. Bryan Barker was looking to have the position locked but just yards from the checkers the seasoned vet Lawrence Limtiaco made a hard charging move to pass Barker for the second place position. Yamaha mounted Barker took fourth for the round with #47 Tyanna Cruz rounding out the top five aboard her Kawasaki Kxf250.

In the 450cc class #11 Michael Limtiaco took first aboard the Pacific Trucking supported Kawasaki Kxf 450 with older broth Lawrence Limtiaco on the #25 Fleet Services supported Kawasaki Kxf 450 taking second. Third Place went to #94 Yamaha Yzf 450 mounted Bryan Barker.

250cc results saw #33 Jake Jones aboard the Triple J supported Honda Crf 250 taking first with #47 Kawasaki Kxf 250 rider Tyanna Cruz taking second.

The final race of the day saw the Open Atv class machines hit the track to do battle amidst scorching temperatures that had many seeking out the shade of a tree or canopy. At the start it was Pine Rental supported #5 Marcus Guerrero aboard his Honda Trx 450 grabbing the early lead with a pack of hungry four wheelers hot on his heels. Guerrero was able to hold the lead until drifting wide before a long set of doubles and table top jumps which had allowed #1 Robert Bucek aboard the Cycles Plus Suzuki Ltr450 and #20 Jerry Joaquin also aboard a Suzuki Ltr450 to slip by. Bucek and Joaquin quickly put distance on the rest of the field and took first and second respectively. With just a few laps left the appearing tiring Honda mounted Guerrero allowed yet another Suzuki Ltr450 to get by him - #16 Jeremiah Shelton saved energy by staying strong and smooth throughout the race to challenge and pass Guerrero for the third place position in the final laps of the event.

Round five of the RPM Yamaha and Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross Series will take place on Sunday November 7th at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo with racing set to begin at 1pm that day. The event will be free for those who would like to come out and watch. Cycles Plus Kawasaki & RPM Yamaha Guam Motocross Championships
Final round of 6
This past weekends Shell V-Power Smokin Wheels saw several championships determined after six exciting rounds of bar to bar banging motocross action that began earlier this year on January 24th. The six round Cycles Plus Kawasaki & RPM Yamaha Guam Motocross Championships saw competitors from both Guam and Japan competing on a combination of natural and man made off road course. The course itself was specifically designed for the high flying motocross motorcycles and atvs that were to be competing and was changed slightly after each round allowing for something challenging and different for the competitors and fans alike to enjoy. The action during the six round season between the competitors was close and intense with riders only at times inches apart soaring over a multiple of jumps and hills..

The Champions.

Defending Guam Open and 250cc motocross champion #786 Jesse Clokey picked up support late in 2009 from RPM Yamaha and was determined to repeat taking his new ride a Yamaha Yzf250 to the top of the winners box. Clokey had several championship challenges from several riders but it was Pacific Trucking team rider #11 Mike Limtiaco aboard a Kawasaki who gave him the closest race. The two were never ever far apart out on the track often swapping positions back and forth while bringing their ever growing fan base to its feet. It all came down to the last heat of the last round during what is Guams largest and longest running motorsports event the Shell V-Power Smokin Wheels Weekend. The chase for the championship was so close going into the final heat of the series that both riders needed to finish and finish ahead of the other in oerder to earn the points needed to take the championship. In that final heat Clokey aboard the Yamaha stayed ahead of Limtiaco to take the championship. Limtiaco took second in the championship with Cycles Plus Kawasaki team rider #7 Jonathan Lizama finishing strong to take the third place championship position.

Guam future motocross stars

Cycles Plus Kawasaki team rider #2 Ricco Pereira the defending Guam 85cc motocross champion rode a near perfect sereis taking the win in 4 of the 6 rounds held to successfully defend his 2009 title. Pereira’s closest competitor was Kawasaki mounted and House of Chin Fe supported Jr Cepeda who took the win in two of the six rounds making it a Kawasaki win sweep of the series for that respective class. Cepeda took second in the series with Robit Cabe aboard a Suzuki taking third in the championship.

Old man dodges a bullet

In the Open Atv class Cycles Plus team rider Robert Bucek made it three championships in a row aboard Suzuki Ltr450, his eighth in the last ten years and his 20th since he began racing atv’s in 1985. Bucek who was ineligible to compete in the final round of the series because of a class rule had to hope his nearest rival in the championship, his daughter 16 year old Keara Bucek, would not score the sufficient amount of points needed to overtake him.  The rule allows for Guam riders to compete in the All Japan ATV championship round held in conjunction with the Shell V-Power Smokin Wheels in the ATVA Open A-B class. The older Bucek having competed and won in the ATVA Pro class in the past was therefore not permitted to move into a lower or non pro class. Keara Bucek racing for the powerhouse RPM Yamaha team was in the drivers seat to knock her father off the throne and only needed to finish with 34 points to take the championship. After the first heat she was half way there and only needed a fifth place finish in the final heat. At the start of the second heat Keara was in good position early off the start but in her attempt to pass she drove her Yamaha Yfz450 straight into the back of another competitor sending her flipping off the course. The wreck caused her to be unable to continue thereby losing any chance of dethroning the older Bucek of the Open Atv championship. Kawasaki mounted Mathew Atorga racing for the Aloha Maid team in his first year on the big quads took third place in the championships just behind the younger Bucek Keara who placed second.

In the Kids Atv classes the girls came from no where in the last several rounds to dominate taking two of the three kids class championships. Aloha Maid team rider Mason Manglona aboard a DRX kept the Kids 50cc Atv championship in control of the boys by taking that class championship. Jeremy Jones aboard a DRX racing for team Triple J took second in class with Luke Reyes taking third aboard his team Aloha Maid DRX.

The Girls take it from the boys

In the Kids 70cc Atv class Polaris mounted Raven Girgan supported by Tsunami Motorsports ran a near consistent season thereby earning the points needed to take the championship. The seven year old Girgan will now take her racing up into the 90cc Kids atv class where she hopes to gain even more great experiences. Taking second was Aloha Maid team rider Isaiah Reyes aboard a DRX with Guam’s 2009 champion Gabriel Munoz placing third aboard a DRX.

Rookie sensation and a big part of the moto girl domination this year #8 Aubrey Taimanglo may have started out the season inexperienced but after six rounds of mud and dust she is now the champion of the Kids 90cc Atv class. Aubrey took the championship by never giving up and doing her best to finish strong in every heat in which she did. Taking second in the championship was Aloha Maids own Marcus Manglona with third place in the championship going to GTR Motorsports own Dylan Aguon supported by Winzler & Kelly Consulting.

Up next to be held on Sunday May 30th at the Guam International Raceways Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Off Road Park will be the Schools Out Motocross!!! The event will be open to all ages 4 years and up and to all classes. Racing is scheduled to start at 1pm free for all to come out and watch.  For more information contact the Guam racing Federation Public Information Officer at 727-5381 or visit www.AtvMotocrossGuam.com

Cycles Plus Kawasaki and RPM Yamaha Motocross Championships
Round 5 of 6

Hot could only be the right way to describe this past Sunday’s motocross racing held at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. Round five of the scheduled six round Cycles Plus Kawasaki and RPM Yamaha Motocross Championships kicked off at 1pm under a hot tropical sun and saw a full day of high flying bar banging motorcycle and atv racing. As in previous rounds motorcycle and atv classes ranged from kids to adult classes giving everyone competing someone at a similar level to race against.

Open Motorcycle race action

#11 Mike Limtiaco representing Pacific Trucking took two great starts in both of his heats to lead wire to wire for the overall win. It wasn’t a complete cake walk for Limtiaco as early on the current points leader #786 Jesse Clokey racing on the RPM Yamaha supported Yzf250 and former Guam champion #7 Jonathan Lizama aboard the Cycles Plus Kawasaki Kxf250 put heavy pressure on the rear wheel of the leader Limtiaco. The lead trio had a close elbow to elbow battle going on for the first four laps of the eight lap heat when they began to encounter lapped riders in which Limtiaco and Lizama were able to fly past with out incident. Clokey on the other hand was taken out by a lapper that caused him to crash hard. Clokey was able to quickly jump back on to his Yamaha after the crash and with a bloody chin began to climb back up into a top five finishing position. When the checkers finally fell it was Jonathan Lizama taking the second place overall position with Clokey taking third. Kawasaki mounted #53 Tom Tarnate the reigning Guam Open Vet champion took home fourth overall, RPM Yamaha team rider #88 Quirino Cabe took fifth, while #25 Fleet Services team rider Lawrence Limtiaco, #17 Antonio Cabe, Triple J team rider #33 Jake Jones, Cycles Plus Kawasaki team rider #5 Shawn Aguilo, #94 Bryan Barker, #52 David Yamasta, and #94 Gary Camacho took sixth through twelfth place respectively. The duo put on an exciting race in both their heats with #10 Robit Cabe taking third and #199 Frank Vawters Jr. taking fourth both mounted on Suzuki machines. First time racer #5 Stephen Bonfield earned his rookie stripes by consistently finishing fifth in both heats run aboard a Kawasaki. #4 Christian Duke took his Yamaha to a strong respectable sixth place finish. The battle for the 85cc championship going into the final April 18th round is between the two Kawasaki mounted riders of Pereira and Cepeda with Pereira currently having a ten point lead advantage over his nearest challenger Cepeda.

Other class race action

In the Open Atv class #1 Robert Bucek took his Cycles Plus Suzuki Ltr450 to its fifth overall win of the championships with Keara Bucek on the #9 RPM Yamaha Yfz450 taking second and rookie sensation Stephen Bonfield in his second class event of the day finishing in third aboard a very fast Kawasaki Kfx450.

In the 90cc Kids Atv Class Aubrey Taimanglo took the win aboard her #8 DRX machine over #27 Marcus Manglona aboard his team Aloha Maid machine. In the 90cc Kids Atv championship Aubrey Taimanglo leads currently Marcus Manglona by a single point going into the final round to be held in April.

Gabriel Munoz and his #95 70cc kids atv let everyone know Sunday that he and his machine are back by taking the win over second place finisher Tsunami Motorsports supported #83 Raven Girgan. Taking second in the round was #33 Jeremy Jones aboard the team Triple J machine with first time racer Auto Works supported #75 Owen Rios taking third aboard a DRX.

In the 250cc Motorcycle class #11 Mike Limtiaco took the Pacific Trucking Kawasaki Kxf250 to a two moto sweep for the win. RPM Yamaha and Cycles Plus Kawasaki Motocross Championships
Round four of six

The fourth round of the six round RPM Yamaha and Cycles Plus Kawasaki Motocross Championships took place this past Sunday at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. Classes competing in the championship ranged from both two and four wheeled kids mini bike and atv classes up to the bigger more powerful full sized off road motorcycles and atv machinery. The racing kicked off at 1pm under clear sunny skies free to the public to come out and watch.

Open Motorcycle class race action saw #14 teenaged Paul Errol Angoco aboard a Yamaha Yzf250 make his way to the lead from within a top five start in both of his heat races. Once in the lead Angoco was able to securely hold on to take the win in both heats to take the round 4 overall for the open motorcycle class. The battle now was for second and was between RPM Yamaha supported #786 Jesse Clokey, Pacific Trucking’s #11 Mike Limtiaco, and #7 Jonathan Lizama who was aboard the Cycles Plus Kawasaki Kxf250. The three riders battled in both heats with each rider taking his turn up in the second place position. At first it appeared as if Clokey aboard the Yamaha was going to be able to take and hold the position but in the second heat he while in the second place position crashed cart wheeling end over end himself and his machine. When Clokey and his machine finally came to a rest from the crash Clokey had to first lift his machine from off himself before dusting himself off and reentering the race. Clokey’s misfortune was #11 Mike Limtiaco’s gain as he inherited the position finishing with a second place in heat one and a third place in heat two for second place overall for the round. Taking third overall and riding very consistently was Cycles Plus Kawasaki team rider #7 Jonathan Lizama with #786 Jesse Clokey battling back to take fourth overall after having gone down earlier in a heat. The RPM Yamaha supported rider Clokey still maintains the points lead in the championship with 179 points over #11 Pacific Trucking’s Mike Limtiaco who has 166 points with two more rounds remaining in the championship. Taking fifth through tenth in round four respectively was #88 Quirino Cabe aboard a RPM Yamaha supported machine, #17 Antonio Cabe also aboard a RPM Yamaha supported machine, #33 Jake Jones aboard the Triple J backed Honda Crf250, US Air force serviceman #94 Bryan Barker aboard a Yamaha Yzf450, Suzuki mounted #52 David Yamasta and in tenth was #93 Yamaha mounted Bernard Crisostomo.

85cc Kids mini bike race was dominated this round by Kawasaki mounted #1 JR Cepeda who is supported by the House of Chin Fe. Cepeda was able to steel the lead off the start in both of the 85cc heats to lead wire to wire for the win. Taking second in the round in class was Ricco Pereira who had been up to this point undefeated in the championship. Taking third was Suzuki mounted #199 Frank Marshal Vawters who together with #10 Robit Cabe also aboard a Suzuki put on a great battle for the position with Vawters just edging out Cabe at the checkers in the final second heat of the round. Cabe took the fourth place overall position with #4 Yamaha mounted Ethan Cabe in fifth followed by Christian Duke also aboard a Yamaha.

In the Kids Atv classes it was all team Aloha Maid taking home the class wins respectively in round four. #16 Luke Reyes edged out Aloha Maid team mate #49 Mason Manglona to take the 50cc Kids Atv win with both riders competing on the popular DRX machines. In the 70cc Kids Atv class #18 Isaiah Reyes took his Aloha Maid supported DRX to the win over Tsunami Motorsports supported #83 Raven Girgan and #11 Jose Simpson. Taking the 90cc Kids Atv class win was Marcus Manglona aboard another Aloha Maid supported DRX machine. Taking second in the 90cc kids atv class was female rookie racer #8 Aubrey Taimanglo.

In the Open Atv class Cycles Plus rider #1 Robert Bucek came from behind to take first with RPM Yamaha mounted #9 Keara Bucek edging out Aloha Maid team rider Mathew Astorga who was aboard a Kawasaki to take second with astorga grabbing third.

250cc Motorcycle class results saw Paul Errol Angoco sweep the class aboard his #14 Yamaha Yzf250. Taking second in class was team Cycles Plus Kawasaki rider #7 Jonathan Lizama with #786 Jesse Clokey filling the final step on the podium. Taking fourth was #88 Quirino Cabe with Triple J team rider Jake Jones taking his #33 Honda to another top five finish.

The big 450cc motorcycle class was again dominated by Pacific trucking team rider Mike Limtiaco aboard his now popular up in the front #11 Kawasaki machine. Limtiaco now has a perfect win score with 8 heat wins in the 450cc class and commands the points for the championships in the class. Taking second was #17 Antonio Cabe aboard the RPM Yamaha supported Yzf450 with another Yamaha mounted rider #94 Bryan Barker taking third in class in just his very first championship motocross event on Guam.

Thanks to the enormous efforts put forth by Hawaiian Rock Product’s heavy equipment and their employees through out the past several weeks in between the championship rounds the GIR motocross course now includes several exciting new sections to its already long and technical jump infested layout.

The Open class contenders

With a stiff cool breeze and under a bright sunny sky the big guns of Guam motocross began to line up just after 1pm for the first of two heat races that would determine the day’s winners and losers. With a strong team which included points leader Jesse Clokey aboard the RPM Yamaha supported Yzf250 being joined by teenage motocross sensation Paul Errol Angoco, and Quirino Cabe also aboard the Yamaha Yzf 250 machines the rest of the competitors were all going to have to be on their A game to have any hopes of securing a possible win. Missing from the powerful RPM Yamaha team lineup was championship contender #77 Brian Gumataotao. The blazingly fast and talented motocross racer was out and on the injured list but there are hopes that Gumataotao will be back in action by April in time for this years Smokin Wheels Weekend. Joining the championship was Japans own Atsuhiko Nakiri who is both a past two wheeled and four wheeled Smokin Wheels Ironman off road endurance champion. Atsuhiko was on island for some fun and was able to secure support in the form of a Honda Cr250 race bike ride from Al Kilgore of the Guam Automotive Clinic for the event. Other contenders lining up for the first of the two heats were Pacific Trucking’s own Mike Limtiaco, Triple J’s Jake Jones, RPM Yamaha team rider Antonio Cabe, and Cycles Plus Kawasaki team rider Jonathan Lizama to name just a few.

Race High Lights Open MC

With each of the championship hopefuls motors all building rpm up on the start line to near destruction with the anticipation of the dropping of the green starter flag those on hand as witness could not just hear but feel the roar being produced reverberating inside ones chest. When the green flag finally dropped it was #215 Atsuhiko Nakiri of Japan launching the GAC Honda right to the front of the roaring pack of contenders. The 44 year old Atsuhiko Nakiri was demonstrating why he is known locally and in Japan as an ironman of the sport by keeping a firm hold on the lead regardless of the constant assaults from the pack. For the first half of the heat #11 Mike Limtiaco aboard the Pacific Trucking Kawasaki 450 was putting the pressure on the leader Atsuhiko while #786 Jesse Clokey, #14 Paul Errol Angoco, and #7 Jonathan Lizama were jockeying for the third place position. The leaders were all putting on an amazing battle each displaying the high flying and physical skills required to be at the front when the leader Japans own Atsuhiko Nakiri uncharacteristically over shot a turn and went cart wheeling end over end in what looked like a horrific crash. As horrible as it had appeared Atsuhiko after bouncing off the red dirt and rock infested terra firma managed to scramble to his feet and remount the GAC Honda before it had even stopped completely moving to rejoin the action now in fifth place. The misfortune of Atsuhiko handed #11 Mike Limtiaco the lead but it was to be a short lived lead as the duo of Yamaha riders Clokey and Angoco respectively both moved by Limtiaco to assume the lead.  The move by the two Yamaha riders moved the Pacific Trucking rider Limtiaco back to third but set up what was to be a great battle between team mates for the win. Clokey who had just undergone wrist surgery earlier that week was looking smooth even with the surgery stitches still in. Angoco who was right on Clokey’s tail pipe pushing to make the move into the lead was also looking smooth leading into technical section of the course when he put the move down to take the lead and take the eventual heat one win. Clokey took second with Limtiaco taking third.

In the second heat at the start RPM Yamaha team rider Jesse Clokey found himself at the front once again in the lead with once more Angoco pushing to make the pass for that lead. The two Yamaha pilots were in a league of their own as they quickly put distance between themselves and the rest of the contenders. As the laps started to wind down Angoco wicked it up a notch to put an exciting pass on the still recovering Clokey to take the heat win and the overall win for round 3. Taking second was Jesse Clokey followed by Limtiaco in third, Atsuhiko Nakiri in fourth, and Jonathan Lizama rounded out the top five.

Other Class Race Results and High Lights

Rounding out the top five was RPM Yamaha’s Quirino Cabe in fourth and #33 Triple J team rider Jake Jones taking fifth.

450cc MC

Limtiaco domination has him leading the 450 class with the maximum amount of points to be earned and placing himself securely in the second place position in the overall Open MC class just behind Jesse Clokey the current Open MC championship points leader. Taking second in the 450 class in round three was Japans own Atsuhiko Nakiri aboard the GAC Honda. Rounding out the top three was RPM Yamaha stable rider #17 Antonio Cabe.

Kids class results and high lights

In the second heat Pereira grabbed the lead and took the win giving him his third out of three overall round wins in class for the year. Cepeda took the second place position with Suzuki mounted #10 Robit Cabe passing Vawters to take third. Vawters finished fourth with #4 Yamaha rider Ethan Cabe rounding out the top five.

Event: Cycles Plus Kawasaki & RPM Yamaha Motocross Championships Round 2

A large crowd of motocross fans and enthusiasts came out to the Guam International Raceway this past Sunday to watch and or participate in the second round of the six round Cycles Plus Kawasaki & RPM Yamaha Motocross Championships. The event was free to come out and watch and GIRMAC club members who participated in the event paid a $10. racer entry fee which is 50% less than that required in past years. The lower racer entry fees were due mainly in part to sponsor contributions such as Cycles Plus Kawasaki, RPM Yamaha and Shell Guam to name just but a few but also because of GIRMAC and the Guam Racing Federations continuous efforts in working towards making motorsports more economical to a much larger demographic of island participants.  The high flying bar banging two and four wheeled championship racing kicked off at 1pm with the big guns of the sport the Open Motorcycle class and continued on through out the day to include several kids and atv classes along with the Open atv class.

Class Race High Lights:
Open Motorcycle
Right off the starting line it was Pacific Trucking team rider Michael Limtiaco aboard a Kawasaki Kxf450 followed by team RPM Yamaha rider #77 Brian Gumataotao who quickly manhandled his blue Yamaha Yzf250 to the front of the lead pack consisting of now running in the second place position #11 Michael Limtiaco followed by RPM Yamaha team riders #786 Jesse Clokey, #4 Antonio Cabe, and #88 Quirino Cabe respectively. Gumataotao was forced to get on the throttle hard when his teammate #786 Jesse Clokey moved past Limtiaco and locked on to the leaders rear wheel. Both team RPM Yamaha riders Gumataotao and Clokey were going at each other hard for the win when Gumataotao clipped a high speed step up double and went flying off the course riding side saddle into a spectacular crash. Gumataotao’s crash gave the lead to Clokey who went on unchallenged to sweep the win in the Open Class. Taking second was Pacific Trucking’s #11 Michael Limtiaco followed by #4 Antonio Cabe aboard the Yamaha Yzf450 in third.

Open Atv
Cycles Plus team rider #1 Robert Bucek had his hands full during round two of the championships with the return after being deployed of #302 Suzuki mounted Dave Demarest. Demarest took an early lead and was followed by RPM Yamahas #9 Keara Bucek in second and Aloha Maid team rider Mathew Astorga aboard a Kawasaki Kfx450. The trio ran up front for the first several laps before #1 Robert Bucek was able to reel them in aboard the Suzuki Ltr450 and make the pass up into the second place position. From that point on Demarest had the crowd on their feet in his heroic effort in staving off Bucek’s relentless assaults at taking his lead away. Demarest was able to keep Bucek from making the pass to take the heat one win with Bucek coming back in second and final tie breaking heat to take the overall round win. Demarest took a second overall for the round but proved to everyone that he is back and still has the speed needed to possibly dethrone the multi time Guam and Japan atv champ of Robert Bucek. Taking third but tied for points for round two was Keara Bucek and rookie open atv class racer Aloha Maid team rider Mathew Astorga respectively.

RPM Yamaha & Cycles Plus Kawasaki Motocross Championships
Round 1 of 6

On Sunday January 24th a large crowd of motocross fans came out to the Guam International Raceway to enjoy some bar banging high flying motorcycle and atv racing. The event was the first round of the scheduled six round RPM Yamaha & Cycles Plus Kawasaki Motocross Championships. The raceway gate opened at 9am Sunday for the event and was free to all to come out to watch. The racing action got started just before 2pm and went on for the rest of the day.

Open Motorcycle Round 1 Race Action

With the sun blazing and a much appreciated cool breeze the stars and future stars of Guam motocross lined up for the first of two heats. As the racers began to line up the tension and excitement began to fill the air and was felt as both Cycles Plus Kawasaki and RPM Yamaha had their stable of team riders lining up along side a host of other teams all in which were there vying for this championship. With the starting line quickly filling it became evident that this championship was going to be the start to a very exciting and physical six round series of events.

HEAT ONE
At the drop of the land rush start it was Cycles Plus Kawasaki team rider #5 Jonathan Lizama who took the lead in heat one followed closely by both #7 Brian Gumataotao and reigning champion #786 Jesse Clokey both racing for team RPM Yamaha. Also getting into the mix was #11 Michael Limtiaco racing for team Pacific Trucking, #88 Quirino Cabe team RPM Yamaha, #33 Jake Jones aboard a black Honda, Antonio Cabe another team RPM Yamaha rider, and Lawrence Limtiaco racing for team Fleet Services. The pack of eight quickly put down laps easily jumping through the many doubles and large jumps as they rubbed elbows and threw up chunks of dirt. After several hard fought battles that resulted in passes and a few hard but spectacular crashes the race found a fast paced rhythm. At the finish of heat one it was Lizama followed by Clokey, and then Gumataotao rounding out the top three. Heat two would be the deciding factor on the final overall results.

HEAT TWO
Guam’s current reigning open motocross champion Jesse Clokey proved why he holds that title by blasting off with the heat two lead aboard his Yamaha Yzf250 right from the drop. Clokey then never looked back putting distance between himself and the rest of his competitors as he took what appeared to be an easy heat two win. The RPM Yamaha team rider Jesse Clokey with his heat one second place finish and his heat two win was declared the round one winner. Cycles Plus team rider Jonathan Lizama remounted after an early crash in heat two to take a third place heat finish for second place for the round. Pacific Trucking team rider Michael Limtiaco picked up his pace in heat two to take second in that heat for a third place finish for the round. Rallying to catch up was rookie rider Robit Casper Cabe aboard the #10 Suzuki Rm85 who placed second in class and third in class finisher Guam’s Reigning TT champion JR Cepeda aboard the House of Chin Fee supported Kawasaki Kx85. Press release

2010 Warm Up Motocross Race

With the weather just on the side of being a monsoon a few hardy motocross racers lined up to challenge each other, the weather, and the swamp like course conditions during a scheduled warm up motocross event that happened this past Sunday. The scheduled warm up motocross race event was to allow riders some race experience time in anticipation of the upcoming 6 round 2010 Guam Motocross Championships which is set to kick off on Sunday January 24th at the GIR.

Gates were opened at the Guam International Raceway at 9am that morning to allow competitors for some practice on the motocross layout before the start of the scheduled 1pm Warm Up event. At the time practice was being held the motocross course was in prefect condition for the competitors with many of the open class motocross bikes taking full advantage of the ideal conditions. Former Guam motocross champion Michael Limtiaco joined his brother Lawrence Limtiaco also a past Guam motocross champion on the course for some orientation laps. Both Limtiaco brothers aboard the green Kawasaki race bikes looked fast as they joined current Guam champion Jesse Clokey who was aboard his RPM Yamaha Yfz250 on the course. Also putting in fast lap times on the big machines out on the course was rookie racer Antonio Cabe his older brother Quirino Cabe both riding the RPM Yamaha supported Yzf machines and reigning Vet champion Tom Tarnate aboard his own Kawasaki Kxf250. With what was looking to be a strong field of open class competitors the clouds moved in along with the wind and the rain. After a short and wet rider’s meeting several classes elected to postpone their heats until the rain stopped. These classes included the open motorcycle and atv classes. The kids classes how ever found the wet dismal monsoon like conditions to their liking perfect for having fun and for challenging each other with some racing.

The first class to kick off the 2010 racing season were the Kids Atv class. Female motocross racer Raven Girgan took her Tsunami Motorsports Polaris to an early lead and had quickly put some distance between herself and her fellow competitors. Running in second place at the half way point was rookie racer Aubrey Taimanglo aboard a yellow DRX and behind her was Jonathan Rose also on a DRX. Up front in the second half of the race it was looking to be an easy win for Girgan but as the rain began to fall even heavier she suddenly was flagged in for some repairs. It appears that Girgans machine had a bolt that had worked itself loose and her pit support made up of Tsunami Motorsports and her father recognized the problem and quickly made the required repair to get Girgan quickly back into the race. Meanwhile Aubrey Taimanglo who had been running a strong second began to have mechanical issues with her DRX and was flagged by her pit crew to come in for repairs. After a short time Taimanglo reentered the race but eventually was forced to retire due to mechanical issues.  With both Girgan and Taimanglo having mechanical problems Jonathan Rose moved himself up and into the lead. Rose was looking strong getting faster it appeared after every lap completed. Now with just one lap left it looked as if Rose was going to take the very first win of 2010 but again what appeared to be was not to be as with just one turn left and 30 yards from the checkered flag Rose’s DRX machine came to fluttering halt. Unfortunately for Rose his pit crew made up of his father Jim Rose who had graciously volunteered to help as track safety was all the way at the other side of the motocross course and was unable to help his son refire the DRX before Girgan on her Tsunami Motorsports Polaris snatched back the lead she had once held. Girgan took the win with Rose eventually restarting his machine to take second with Taimanglo taking the third place finish.

The 85cc minibke class was the next and final class to take advantage of the scheduled Warm Up event. Last year’s rookie Suzuki mounted Frank Vawters jr. was joined by first time racers Robit Cabe also aboard a Suzuki and Ethan Cabe aboard a Yamaha. The two Cabe boys who have riding experience and had spent time late last year practicing on the motocross track located at the Guam International Raceway in anticipation of the 2010 motocross season looked fast they both launched off the line at the start. With elbows out and with great riding posture Robit Cabe also known as Casper took the lead. Casper showed the crowd on hand that he was fearless as regardless of the conditions he held the throttle wide open and cleared several of the large double jumps and tore his way through the gnarly whoop section. Casper was impressive in his debut race and proved that he will be a serious title contender for this years 85cc Guam Motocross Championship. Ethan Cabe aboard the Yamaha was also putting in impressive lap time as he held off Frank Vawters for the second place position. The three up front riders put on a great race with Robit Cabe taking first, Ethan Cabe second, and Frank Vawters jr. third.

The next scheduled event will be the kick off this year’s highly anticipated 2010 Guam Motocross Championships with round 1 on Sunday January 24th. The championship round will be held at the Guam International Raceway’s Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Off Road Park in Yigo. Racing starts at 1pm and will be free to all to come out to watch and support. The Raceway’s Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Off Road Park will be open this coming Sunday January 17th for riding and practice. For information on the requirements needed to ride and race at the park visit www.AtvMotocrossGuam.com or contact GRF PIO Robert Bucek at 727-5381
