2012 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships

Round 1 of 12

For more information contact Robert Bucek 727-5381

On Sunday the Guam International Raceway was the site for round 1 of the twelve round Monster Energy 2012 Guam Motocross Championships. Most of Guam’s top motocross athletes were on hand doing bar to bar racing on what was a very rough and challenging course. With several classes competing under ideal course and weather conditions the racing was tight and hard fought which created quite the thrill for the racers and those fans on hand watching.

With the newly added Shell V-Power Hole Shot Award at each of the twelve rounds the drag race at and from the start by all the competitors was intense as each rider was going full throttle in the attempt of being the first through to receive the Shell V-Power Hole Shot Award fuel pass. For Round 1 the Hole Shot Award recipients were Caleb Barretto aboard a Cycles Plus Kawasaki Kxf250 in the Open Motorcycle class, Collin Ray Cruz on a DRX 90 in the Open Kids Mini Atv class, and Andrew Ignacio on a Yamaha Yz85 in the Open Kids Mini Bike class.

Race highlights

In the first of two heats in the Open Motorcycle class the wall of thundering competitors kicked up a hail storm of dirt as they launched off the start and plowed through the first of several turns. Taking the lead was defending Guam champion Caleb Barretto aboard a Cycles Plus Kawasaki who had a hungry pack of championship hopefuls all over his rear fender. As the pack hit the first series of double jumps riders were side by side bumping elbows and shoulders as they soared high and far through the air. Barretto was in form and was demonstrating why he is Guam’s number one rider by seemingly effortlessly able to pull away and control the race. Running in second was #42 JR Cepeda who was aboard a Johnstone Supplies supported Kawasaki with #3 Jacob Einloth in third aboard a Yamaha. Moving up fast from the back of the pack having fallen twice was #915 Anthony Ignacio on a Yamaha. Ignacio had fallen at the start and then again in a tight rutted turn but once remounted was on the gas hard. At the finish of heat one it was Barretto in first, Cepeda second, Einloth third, and coming from dead last Ignacio was able to take fourth. Fifth went to #926 Gary Camacho on a Yamaha.

In heat two Barretto once more took the lead off the start but this time he had the blazing Ignacio running just behind him. The two almost immediately got into a heated dog fight that saw Ignacio airing it out over the biggest jumps in his attempts at the lead. Barretto seemed to be taking the assaults at stride as he once again controlled the race by sticking to the preferred race lines. At one point near the closing laps off the heat Ignacio had made the pass into the lead but it was to be short lived as Barretto pounced right back. At the finish it was the champ Barretto taking first and first overall for the round. Ignacio took second in the heat for a round third overall. Cepeda took third in heat two for a round second overall. Jacob Einlothh finished a fourth overall with Gary Camacho placing fifth overall for the round.

In the Open Kids Mini Bike class #14 Andrew Ignacio took his Yamaha to a dominating two heat sweep with Honda mounted #80 Branton Kerns in second and #12 Stoney Bucek aboard the Cycles Plus Kawasaki in third. Rounding out the top five overall were #11 Gavin Kerns on a Kawasaki and #26 Paul Castro aboard a Kawasaki respectively.

Andrew Ignacio took the win again in the 85cc class aboard a Yamaha with Branton Kerns in second and Stoney Bucek taking third. Rounding out the top five were #29 AJ Windham in fourth aboard a Yamaha and #17 Rowan Pereira on a Kawasaki in fifth.

In the 65cc class #11 Gavin Kerns took the round 1 win aboard his Kawasaki with #88 Ethan Camacho in second and Ry’niko Camacho placing third both aboard Kawasaki’s

In the Kids Mini Atv class #5 Janissa Torres aboard the Haul Pro supported Apex90 edged out #11 Jose Simpson who was racing a DRX90 for the overall win. Taking third was #75 Jesse Leon Guerrero on a DRX with #99 Victoria Clark and Jordan Leon Guerrero rounding out the top five respectively.

2012 Warm Up Motocross 1

This past Sunday saw the start of the 2012 Guam motocross schedule out at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. The first of twenty scheduled meets for 2012 was the first of two Warm Up Motocross events. The scheduled Warm Up’s are to allow both participants and organizers a chance to get themselves, the machines, and they’re teams prepared for the upcoming Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships series which begins on February 19th.

At 2pm under ideal weather conditions the riders after a brief meeting hit the track which had recently been redesigned thanks to the support and efforts of Haw’n Rock Products, Bobcat Guam, and Smithbridge International. The design now includes bigger jumps and longer sweeping sections which connect big doubles that allow for closer bar banging action with top riders getting much more air time.

Open Atv class was up first and saw #9 Ramon Torres aboard a Suzuki Ltr450 thundering off the line to take an early lead over team Cycles Plus rider #1 Robert Bucek who was also aboard the a Suzuki Ltr450. Bucek chased Torres for the entire first of two heats with Torres taking the heat one win. Heat two was all Bucek as he took the lead right from the start and went on to take the heat two win and the overall for the day. Torres took second overall and had shown that he is a real threat for that class championship.

After the Open Atv class had hit the track it was time for the big two wheeled machines of the Open Motorcycle class to line up and do battle. #6 Anthony Ignacio on his Yamaha Yzf250 blasted off the line to take the lead in front of a host of contenders that included #1 Caleb Barretto aboard a Cycles Plus Honda, KTM mounted #31 Tim Wenden, along with many others. The lead was maintained well by Ignacio who after just a few laps had managed to start to pull away from the battle for second. Guam motocross champ Caleb Barretto was busy trying to stay ahead of New Zealand born Tim Wenden who was charging his way around the course and putting on a spectacular air show in his attempts to pass Barretto. Midway into the first heat Ignacio was way out in front and Wenden had muscled his orange KTM around Barretto for second. Ignacio took the heat one win with Wenden and Barretto taking second and third respectively.

Heat two once again had Ignacio on his Yamaha up front and pulling a lead over the rest of the field except for #31 Tim Wenden who was shadowing Ignacio’s rear fender in second.  Meantime #926 Gary Camacho and #3 Jacob Einloth both aboard Yamaha Yzf250 machines were caught up in a great battle for third. On lap four Wenden went for the pass for the lead over a double jump but came up short and crashed into the tire barrier. Wendens crash allowed both Camacho and Einloth to swap the second place position several times. At the checkers it was once again the Yamaha #6 machine of Anthony Ignacio who with the heat wins earned him the overall victory. Einloth was able to secure second for the heat and for the overall with Camacho taking third overall. Wenden was able to remount to take fourth overall with #98 Marshal Vawter Jr taking fifth overall in his first race in the big bike class. Rounding out the top ten respectively was #1 Caleb Barretto, #612 Devin Castro, #5 Shawn Aguilo, and #53 Tom Tarnate.

The kids mini bike riders were the next to race and saw 85cc Yamaha rider #14 Andrew Ignacio out front all alone to easily sweep both heats to take the win. Taking second was 65cc KTM mounted #80 Branton Kerns with his brother Gavin on a Kawasaki 65 taking third. Fourth went to Kawasaki 110 rider #6 Stoney Bucek with Paul Castro taking a fifth in his very first race ever aboard a Kawasaki Klf140.

In the 65cc class #80 Branton Kerns was unstoppable as he took the win over Gavin Kerns and Stoney Bucek who took second and third respectively.

The last division to race were the Mine Kids Atv class where Drx90 mounted #29 AJ Windham took an early lead in heat one to eventually place third in the heat. Brother Marcus and Mason Manglona only had time to compete in the first of the two heats so they made the most of it by taking first and second respectively. #27 Marcus aboard an Apex90 and Mason #49 aboard an Apex70. In heat two AJ Windham secured second to earn first overall aboard his Drx90 with Drx mounted #30 Tanner Costa taking a heat two first and a second overall in his very first race. Marcus and Mason Manglona after only racing the first heat took third and fourth overall respectively.

The second Warm Up Motocross race will take place on February 5th at 1pm out at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. Everyone is welcome to come out and watch and for those interested in joining in on the action you can contact Rob of the Guam Racing Federation at 727-5381. Round 6 Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross Series
For more information contact Robert Bucek at 727-5381

The final motocross of the six round Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon series was held this past Sunday at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. The action out on the track was wild and fierce as several contenders were to close in the series standings to either back off of give an inch. Once again Mother Nature provided the competitors along with all their fans and support with blue skies and perfect course conditions. With a full field of competitors that included both two and four wheeled classes the racing was finally able to kick off about a half hour late at just about 2pm after a few adjustments to the tough course layout had been made.

Up on the line first were the big guns of the Open Motorcycle class where once again #59 Caleb Barretto aboard the team Cycles Plus Honda Crf450 led and dominated from start to finish. Barretto with 292 points took the Monsoon series championships making him a two time 2011 champion having taken the premier Monster Energy Guam Motocross Open Motorcycle championship also earlier in the year. Taking second and third respectively for the round and in the series standings were the teenagers of #915 Anthony Ignacio aboard his Yamaha yzf250 with 243 points and #42 JR Cepeda with 240 points on a Johnstone Supplies supported Kawasaki Kxf250. Rounding out the top ten in the final Open Motorcycle class series standings were #88 Gary Camacho 184pts, #5 Shawn Aguilo 164pts, #3 Jacob Einloth 144pt, #19 Zachary Chang 135pts, #33 Jake Jones 131pts, #52 David Yamasta 108pts, and #6 Nolan Minor 108pts.

One of the closest and most anticipated match ups was in the 250cc class where the two young guns of #915 Anthony Ignacio the points leader coming into the final round and of #42 JR Cepeda who was just a mere five points behind Ignacio for the series championship title were set to fight it out bar to bar right to the final lap of the final heat. In the first of the two heats run Cepeda was able to jump out in front and cruise to an easy win over Ignacio cutting his points down to just two behind Ignacio. It was all going to have to to be determined in the final heat of the series. After several jumped starts the second heat was let loose from the start with Ignacio who was riding sore from a practice incident that occurred earlier that week dicing and cutting his way through the pack towards the front. Once up front Ignacio aboard his Yamaha had Cepeda on a Kawasaki right on his rear fender as the two had everyone watching as they put on an excellent race. Lap after lap the two contenders were at the razors edge of control as each maxed out their throttles and flew at near tree top levels launching themselves off and over jumps that make up the GIR motocross course. As the checkers came out and the riders came around that final home stretch turn it was still to close to call! Nearly side by side as they took the finish it was “Tony Boy” Ignacio edging out and taking the heat win thereby clinching his very first 250cc motocross series championship. Taking second was Cepeda with #88 Gary Camacho taking third.
In the series standings Anthony Ignacio took the win with Cepeda second and Camacho third. Rounding out the top ten respectively in the series standings were #5 Shawn Aguilo Kawasaki 181pts, #3 Jacob Einloth Honda 154pts, #19 Zachary Chang Honda 145pts, #33 Jake Jones Honda 140pts, #52 David Yamasta Kawasaki 116pts, #6 Nolan Minor Kawasaki 114pts, #14 Errol Angoco Yamaha 97pts, and #948 Devin Castro 88pts.

In the Open Atv class #9 Ramon Torres on a Suzuki Ltr450 had just a three point lead over #5 Marcus Guerrero Jr. on a GTR Pine Rental Supported Honda Trx450 coming into the final round. At the start both were side by side as they drifted around the first turn with Guerrero taking the inside and the lead with Torres right behind him and #10 Myron Cruz on a Suzuki Ltz400 in third. Guerrero and Torres soon made it a two way fight for the lead with Torres trying to blitz an outside line resulting in sliding highside flip over. Torres’s flip over gave Guerrero time to pull way ahead eventually taking the first heat win. Torres was able to remount and still take second. At the start of heat two the final and determining heat of the series both riders were now tied in points. Guerrero took an early lead once again with Torres once again maneuvering in an attempt to pass for the lead. The two were close and going into just the second lap it was Guerrero who made the mistake resulting in a spin in the very same turn that had caused Torres to flip over. Guerrero was able to reenter the race but had allowed both Torres and Cruz to get by. With Torres up front Guerrero was pouring it on to try and catch up but all though he did catch and pass Cruz for second place the Suzuki of Torres had to much of a lead to catch. Torres took the win and the championship. Guerrero took second with Cruz placing third. Rounding out the top five respectively in the series were #2 Keara Bucek aboard a RPM Yamaha Yfz450 and Matt Cruz aboard a Cycles Plus Honda.

In the 85cc class #14 Andrew Ignacio the younger brother of Anthony went undefeated to take that class championship with #98 Frank Marshal Vawters jr. on a Suzuki taking second and #35 Michael Murphy on Kawasaki placing third. Rounding out the top five in the series standings were #4 Chaz Fernandez on his Yamaha and Dominick Fernandez on a Kawasaki respectively.

In the 65cc class the two front runners of #6 Stoney Bucek and #88 Ethan Camacho took their turn crashing with both riders able to get up, dust themselves off and reenter the race. Bucek took the win with Camacho right close behind to take second. Bucek took the series championship win aboard a Kawasaki with Camacho taking second also on a Kawasaki. Third for the series went to Ry’niko Camacho also on a Kawasaki.

In the Kida Mini Atv class #11 Jose Simpson on DRX was on a whole different level as he just tore up the track doubling the big jumps like the big guys and seeming to never let off as he simply dominated to take the round win. Taking second was #4 Janissa Torres aboard a Haul Pro supported Apex with #3 Bernabe Guerrero taking third. Taking the series championship was #4 Janissa Torres 237 points with #11 Jose Simpson 233 points in second and #3 Bernabe Guerrero 226 points in third. Rounding out the top ten for the series were #75 Jesse Leon Guerrero DRX 199pts, #23 Jordan Leon Guerrero DRX 185pts, #99 Victoria Clark DRX Scoot de Vill 179pts, #66 Jeric Johnson DRX 172pts, #21 Dylan Baza Suzuki 138pts, and #5 Colin Ray Cruz DRX 126pts.

#4 Janissa Torres also took the 90cc Kids Atv class series title with Bernabe Guerrero taking the 70cc Kids Atv class title.

Up next for the hard charging racers of the Guam International Raceway Motorcycle and Atv Corporation will be the Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross series awards potluck party along with an open house tentatively scheduled for mid January. Round 5 Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross Series
For more information contact Robert Bucek at 727-5381

On Sunday at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo race fans attending the fifth round of the six round Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross series saw a day packed with close wheel to wheel motorcycle and atv racing. With the sun ablaze and a stiff breeze blowing the track conditions quickly became dry and dusty making for a very slick and hard packed course to negotiate for the competitors. The race action kicked off at 1:30pm and saw class action ranging from kids minibike and atv’s on up to the full sized two and four wheeled machines.

Highlights
250cc class championship points leader #915 Anthony Ignacio aboard his Yamaha Yzf250 had his handful this past Sunday with the Johnstone supported Kawasaki of #42 JR Cepeda as the duo went at it back and forth in each of their two 250cc class heats. In heat one Ignacio had taken the lead with Cepeda shadowing his every move for the first lap and a half of the five lap heat before over committing and going down. After quickly remounting Cepeda reentered the race back in the fifth place position and had begun a steady march back up towards the leader Ignacio. At the finish of heat one Cepeda out of laps and time had moved back into second place with Ignacio taking the heat one win. #33 Jake Jones aboard his Triple J supported Honda who had inherited the second place position when Cepeda had gone down also went down losing several positions. Taking third was #5 Shawn Aguilo aboard the team Cycles Plus Kawasaki with #88 Gary Camacho in fourth and Jones after remounting taking fifth.
In heat two the #42 of Cepeda shot up to the front of the 250cc class with Ignacio, Jones, and #3 Jacob Einloth this time right on his rear wheel respectively. Lap by lap Cepeda was able to pull away from the rest of the field and go on to take the heat two win and the round five overall win for the 250cc class. Ignacio took second with Jones, Aguilo, and #88 Gary Camach rounding out the top five overall. Finishing sixth through tenth respectively were #3 Jacob Einloth, #52 David Yamasta, #948 Devin Castro, and #19 Zachary Chang.
With just one round remaining the fight for the 250cc series championship is just a close margin of five points and will have to be decided at the final sixth round. Anthony Ignacio with 218 points has a slight five point lead over JR Cepeda who has 213 points. Both riders look determined and ready to take it. The final round looks to have built itself up for these two riders as being the round to have to win.

In the premier Open Motorcycle class the team Cycles Plus Honda rider #59 Caleb Barretto went mostly unchallenged as he took his Honda Crf450 to two wire to wire heat race wins. Taking second was #42 JR Cepeda aboard the Johnstone supported Kawasaki Kxf250 with #915 Anthony Ignacio placing third on his Yamaha Yzf250. Rounding out the top ten was #33 Jake Jones, #5 Shawn Aguilo, #88 Gary Camacho, #3 Jacob Einloth, #52 David Yamasta, #948 Devin Castro, #19 Zachary Chang, and #21 Matt Cruz.
Caleb Barretto extended his lead in the series championship points to 41 points with 242 points earned over Anthony Ignacio who now stands with 201 points and JR Cepeda who has 198 points. With just one round remaining to be held on Sunday December 4th   Barretto only needs to finish one heat to wrap up this years Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross Open Motorcycle class championship. The close battle and an intense one at that is the fight for second between Ignacio on his Yamaha and Cepeda aboard the Kawasaki.

In the 85cc class #14 Andrew Ignacio on his Yamaha and #98 Marshal Vawters Jr. aboard a Suzuki swapped heat wins with Andrew taking the round win and with Marshal taking second. Third place went #35 Michael Murphy aboard a Kawasaki with first time racer #48 Dominick Fernandez placing fourth in his first race ever.

Back on the track was the 65cc minibike class. The 65cc class is made up of riders aged 8 to 12 years old and includes 65cc class two stroke motored and 110cc four stroke motored machines. Taking the win was #6 Stoney Bucek aboard a Kawasaki 110. Stoney was followed by second place finisher #88 Ethan Camacho aboard a Kawasaki Kx65. Third went to #8 Ry’niko Camacho also on a Kawasaki Kx65. Fourth was taken by #34 Tim Murphy on yet another Kawasaki Kx65. The second place finishers through fourth place were all first time racers having taken the checkered flag for their first time ever.

The battle in the Open Atv class has been growing between the Suzuki mounted #9 of Ramon Torres and the #5 Honda of Marcus Guerrero Jr.. The two rookie open atv racers have been bar bashing through out the series and coming into the fifth round Guerrero was holding onto a three point lead over Torres in the series points. At the start Torres took the early lead but was passed momentarily by Guerrero who was determined to take the win. The two leaders fought it out racing side by side elbow to elbow at times with neither willing to give an inch o the other. At the checkers Torres was able to edge out Guerrero for the win with Guerrero taking second and #9 Keara Bucek once again aboard the RPM Yamaha Yfz450 placing third. With Torres’s win he moves himself up into the series lead by three points with a total of 229 points over Guerrero who now stands in second with 226 points. This battle for the championship will also come down to the final heat of the final round on December 4th.

Jeric Johnson used his head and rode a smart race to take the round five win aboard his #66 DRX90 in the Kids Open Mini Atv class. #11 Jose Simpson who dominated the first of the two heats had mechanical issues to overcome in the second heat which left him with a second place overall for the round. In heat one #9 Janissa Torres aboard her Apex90 also had to overcome issues but came back strong to dominate the second heat with a win giving her a third place overall for the round. Also finishing strong in the round respectively were #3 Bernabe Guerrero, #99 Victoria Clark, #75 Jesse Leon Guerrero, #23 Jordan Leon Guerrero, #33 Collin Ray Cruz, and #21 Dylan Baza

Round 4 Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross Series
For more information contact Robert Bucek at 727-5381

Rocks, dirt and bodies were all sent flying as round four of the six round Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross series was being held this past Sunday at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. With several classes of both motorcycles and atv’s that included classes for all ages competing the fourth round of the series saw a lot of very close racing out on the course resulting in some big changes in the overall series standings. The course this past Sunday was perfect being that it was just wet enough to keep the dust down but still provide lots of great traction for all those terra firma gobbling tires.

Notables
The current series Open Motorcycle class points leader #59 Caleb Barretto and his team Cycles Plus decided that Caleb would compete in the round four event not aboard his usual Honda Crf450 which has been dominating the class but would be switching for the fourth round to a Kawasaki Kxf250. Also switching their usual ride for round four was #14 Errol Angoco who had been competing on a Yamaha Yz125 two stroke powered but was now aboard a Yamaha Yzf250 which is a four stroke powered. With a majority of the top local riders present for the round the excitement and anticipation could be seen and felt in the pit area prior to the start. Most riders were fidgeting with details such goggles while the mechanics were checking things such as air pressures and fuel. As the riders began to stage for the start of the first of two heats per class fans along with many family and friends were moving themselves from the parking and open pit area to locations around the course that provide a much better vantage point of the action.

Highlights
Heat one
As the ground trembled from the roar of engines winding out to near their rev limiter the flag dropped for the start of the first heat of the Open Motorcycle class. Rounding the first turn first was Barretto followed closely by Angoco and at least another dozen competitors. As Barretto streaked up the main straight he had Angoco all over his rear wheel jockeying to get position. The battle became intense as Angoco was turning sets of doubles into one big single in his efforts to make the pass on the reigning Guam Motocross champ and current point’s leader Barretto. Barretto managed to hold onto the lead for just one lap before succumbing to the onslaught of Angoco speed and persistence. Angoco had once out front refused to let off and quickly pulled away from Barretto and the rest of the field. It soon became obvious to some that Barretto who was running in the second place position had stopped trying to pursue the fast Angoco but had rather began to find a fast but comfortable pace. This was probably in an attempt to conserve energy for the second and final up coming heat to be held later in the day. Meanwhile as the two front leaders had pulled a comfortable lead from the rest of the field the battle for third on down was just beginning. First to make a surge forward in position was the #42 Johnstone Supplies supported Kawasaki of JR Cepeda who bullied his way past the Yamaha of #88 Gary Camacho into fifth then pounced past #33 Jake Jones who was aboard his Triple J supported Honda into fourth where he quickly set his sights on #915 Yamaha mounted Anthony Ignacio who was holding his own in third place. Once Cepeda had caught up to the rear fender of Ignacio he was unable to make the pass while Ignacio feeling the challenges of Cepeda turned it up a notch. The two set a quick pace and by the latter part of the heat had reeled in the second place of Barretto. The three fright trained each hoping the other would make even the smallest of errors that could allow a pass for a gain in position. At the checkers it was Angoco first with Barretto, Ignacio, Cepeda and Jones taking second through fifth respectively.

Heat two
Once again the #59 machine of Caleb Barretto rounded the first turn out front leading a large pack of riders with Angoco right on his rear wheel. Missing from that pack was the #915 machine of Ignacio who had been pinched off at the start and had gone down in spectacular fashion. Ignacio after catching his breath and doing an inventory inspection of his body parts was able to remount and reenter the race from nearly three quarters of a lap behind the rest of the field. Angoco was once again putting on a hard challenge but Barretto was able to hold off all attempts and slowly able to edge himself further and further ahead of Angoco. At the checkers of heat two Barretto took the heat win which combined with his second place heat one finish was able to secure the overall round four win. Angoco took a solid second for the heat and a second place overall for the round. Taking third overall was #42 JR Cepeda who was closely followed by #33 Jake Jones in fourth and coming back from last was #915 Anthony Ignacio to take a well earned fifth.  Rounding out the top ten respectively for the round were #88 Gary Camacho, #3 Jacob Einloth, #622 Nolan Minor, #948 Devin Castro, and #53 Tom Tarnate.

Standings.
Barretto still holds onto the series points lead in the Open Motorcycle class with 192 points over Anthony Ignacio who has now 159 points with JR Cepeda just three points behind second place sitting in third with 156 points. Big movers this round were #14 Angoco who with just two rounds raced out of the four has moved into the top ten in seventh with 91 points and #33 Jake Jones who also after just having run two of the four so far has also moved himself into the top ten with 64 points. Dropping this week were no show rider #5 Shawn Aguilo who fell from third in the standings to fifth with 104 points. Gary Camach moves up into fourth with 119 points. With just two more rounds remaining in the series the action is sure to heat up even more as there still is a chance for many at the series title.

Other highlights saw the Open Atv young guns of #5 Marcus Guerrero Jr. aboard a Honda Trx450 and #9 Ramon Torres on a Suzuki Ltr450 trading heat wins with Torres taking the fourth round overall and Guerrero in second. Finishing third was round three overall winner #10 Myron Cruz aboard a Suzuki Ltz400. Guerrero still leads Torres in the series by just three points.

Kids Atv action saw #66 Jeric Johnson way out in front of the field in heat one but then going into the last laps of the heat forced to retire due to a suspension malfunction. This left the door open for Apex mounted #9 Janissa Torres to take the heat win with #11 Jose Simpson aboard his DRX90 in second and #75 Jesse Leon Guerrero taking third. In heat two Simpson tore up to the front double jumping his way into the lead with Torres running in second. At the finish it was Jose Simpson with the win and the round four overall win. Torres took second overall with #99 Victoria Clark on a DRX90 supported by Scoot de Vill, #75 Jesse Leon Guerrero aboard his DRX90, #3 Bernabe Guerrero on a Pine Rental GTR supported DRX70, #23 Jordan Leon Guerrero DRX90, and #21 Dylan Baza on a Suzuki taking third through seventh respectively.

Round five of the six round Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross Series will be held on Sunday November 20th at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. It will be once again free to come out and watch with racing set to begin around 1:30pm. Round 3 Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross Series
For more information contact Robert Bucek at 727-5381

The third round of the scheduled six round Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross Series took place this past Sunday out at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. The biggest question on the social networks leading into the round by competitors was not who was going to possibly take the round win but in who will survive to finish the challenging course conditions. With a week that saw nothing but grey skies and constant rain the course on Saturday the day prior to the round saw intense flooding with some sections having been transformed into small rivers. Being that the series is the Monsoon Series the round would be on regardless of the conditions. Sunday morning however saw blue skies with a quickly draining race course and ear to ear smiles from the competitors. The course by mid morning had become ideal for racing and by the 1:30 pm start it was perfect.

Highlights
In heat one of two in the Open Motorcycle Class #59 Caleb Barretto aboard the team Cycles Plus Honda Crf450 paced the pits prior to the start and appeared focused and on a mission to take the round win. Barretto the reigning Monster Energy Guam Motocross champion had let is guard down during a wild round two battle held earlier this month and was beat by the young up and comer to the class #915 Anthony Ignacio aboard his Yamaha Yzf250. Barretto had more to be concerned about than just the young up and comers with Smokin Wheels champ #14 Errol Angoco aboard his high pitched Yamaha Yz125 two stroke signed up to compete in the round and #42 JR Cepeda another young up and comer determined to take the win aboard his Johnstone Supplies supported Kawasaki Kxf250.
At the drop of he green flag it was Barretto and the power of the Cycles Plus Honda 450cc engine that surged up to the front and into the lead. Barretto was closely followed by #42 JR Cepeda, #915 Ignacio, and #14 Angoco. The four quickly made distance on the rest of the field and were engaged in a dog fight for positions. Barretto at times was seeing the front white fender of Ignacio challenge as Ignacio had secured the second place position early in the heat. The two were locked in a battle while Angoco quickly got into the mix for the lead with Cepeda looking for opportunity if it should arise to move up a position. The four way battle continued with Ignacio going for the pass on the final lap that caused him to slide out allowing both Angoco and Cepeda to slip by. At the checkers of heat one it was Barretto first, Angoco second, Cepeda third, and Ignacio in fourth. Rounding out heat one in the top five was #5 Shawn Aguilo aboard a team Cycles Plus Kawasaki Kxf250.
Heat two saw Barretto once again use the power of the 450 to take an early lead with once again Ignacio, Cepeda and Angoco hot on his rear wheel. The four once again engaged in a dog fight for position. Going into the third lap it was Cepeda’s turn to slide out and go down putting him near the back of the field. Angoco quickly moved his screaming two stroke Yamaha into second and was putting on a charge to reel in the leader Barretto. The power of Barretto’s bigger Honda motor was apparent as any ground gained by Angoco was quickly lost in the higher speed sections of the course. At the checkers of heat two Barretto cruised to the round sweep to take the overall win with Angoco taking another second for a second place round finish. Ignacio took third and combined with his fourth place heat one finish was awarded third overall for the round. Cepeda took fourth overall for the round with his third place heat one finish and his seventh place finish in heat two. Fifth place overall went to #3 Jacob Einloth aboard a Honda Crf250. Sixth through tenth were respectively #5 Shawn Aguilo, #33 Jake Jones, #52 David Yamasta, #88 Gary Camacho, and #19 Zachary Chang.
With three rounds remaining in the series Barretto still leads the points with 145 points over Ignacio with 127 points and Cepeda who has earned 118 points.

In heat one the Open Atv the teenaged up and comers of #5 Marcus Guerrero aboard a GTR Pine Rental supported Honda Trx450 and #9 Ramon Torres aboard a Simpson family owned Suzuki Ltr450 locked in battle with both taking his turn at the lead. They fought hard until the last lap when Torres crushed his front wheel as he attempted to bump pass Guerrero for the lead. Guerrero took the heat one win with Myron Cruz in second, Matt Cruz in third and Torres taking fourth.
In heat two Torres jumped out to an early lead and was on a pace to go unchallenged as Guerrero rode strong in second a position that would insure the overall round win. Going into the last laps a mental error by Guerrero saw his Honda spit him off and send him sailing. The spill quickly brought out the caution flags and allowed Torres to take the heat two win unchallenged with #8 Myron Cruz aboard a Suzuki Ltz400 taking another second which was good enough for the rookie to take the round win for his very first overall. Torres took second overall with Guerrero who was able to remount and finish taking third overall. Fourth overall went to Kawasaki mounted Matt Cruz. Point’s leader Guerrero now has 135 points with three rounds still remaining with Torres 132 points and Myron Cruz with 82 points.

In the 85cc Minibike class Yamaha  #14 Andrew Ignacio swept both heats on his Yz85 to take the round three overall with Marshal Vawters aboard his Suzuki Rm85 in second and #35 Michael Murphy on Kawasaki Kx85 in third.

Monster Energy 2011 Guam Motocross Championships Round 9 of 10

Round nine of the ten round Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships was held this past Sunday at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. The motocross racing supported by Cycles Plus Honda and RPM Yamaha Power Sports started at 1pm and was once more free for all to come out and watch.

Early on Mother Nature had been nice and what had began that morning as a promising day of fairly dry but overcast skies perfect for a day of motocross turned into a 30 minute down pour just moments before the 1pm start of the premier Open Motorcycles class. The down pour turned the course into what was already a challenging layout into a course where survival to the checkers became every competitors main focus The competitors however took the monsoon type conditions in stride as they blasted of the starting line for the first of their two 20 minute heat races that would determine the round 9 results. #59 Caleb Barretto riding aboard the team Cycles Plus Honda Crf450 quickly showed the remainder of the class that he was serious about winning the round and the championship by leading both heats from start to finish. While Barretto tore up the track to make it a two heat sweep the battle for second place was being fought between four riders. #111 Jacob Einloth and #78 Anthony Ignacio both racing aboard Yamaha Yz125’s along with #5 Shawn Aguilo and #7 Jonathan Tye Lizama who were mounted on a pair of team Cycles Plus Kawasaki Kxf250’s were all slamming it up as they battled one another intensely for position. At the checkers it was Anthony Ignacio taking second with Lizama in third. Fourth place went to a hard charging Jacob Einloth who now sits just one point behind #33 Jake Jones  for third place in the championship standings. Rounding out the top five was Shawn Aguilo. With his two heat sweep for round 9 Caleb Barretto has moved back onto the top of the Open Motorcycle class championship standings with just four points separating him from Jonathan Lizama who sits in second in the standings. The August 7th round ten final will be the decider in this battle for the championship.

With the course conditions wet, rough and just plain nasty the Open Atv class competitors found the track perfect and were eager to get started and into all that round 9 muck. Taking an early lead was team Cycles Plus Suzuki rider #1 Robert Bucek who was being closely pursued by #4 Donavan Pitter aboard a Honda Trx450 and #20 Jerry Joaquin aboard a Suzuki Ltr450. With course conditions deteriorating quickly the leader Bucek suddenly had his motor stall as he was attempting to clear his vision from all the mud that had accumulated into his helmet and onto his goggles. Bucek’s stall had allowed for #20 Jerry Joaquin to take over the lead for the next several laps and had also allowed the #4 machine of Donavan Pitter to slip into second. Bucek after clearing his vision by tossing his goggle to the side of the track quickly made a charge back towards the lead. Bucek’s first victim to be passed was the Honda Trx450 of Pitter who had just slipped out a bit wide in a slick 90 degree turn allowing Bucek to block pass his way for the position. One lap later and going down the high speed spectators straight Bucek made the move on Joaquin as Joaquin battled his machine for control as it skimmed across several sets of mud puddles to the crowds delight. At the half way mark of the heat Bucek had retaken the lead and went on to take the win. Second place however was still being contested as Pitter had reeled in Joaquin who was now also having vision problems from all the mud being thrown up from the machines. Pitter had made quick work on Joaquin to take second leaving Joaquin alone to a third place in the first heat. In heat two Bucek jumped out to an early lead and dominated having lapped the entire field of competitors by the time the checkers had waved. Taking second in heat two was Aloha Maid supported Shane Reyes racing aboard the #10 Kawasaki Kfx450. Third place went to the #4 of Donavan Pitter. Overall Bucek and his Cycles Plus Suzuki Ltr450 took the round win extending his championship points lead by 150 points over the second place of Donavan Pitter who sits securely in second in the Open Atv standings. Third place round 9 finish went to #10 Shane Reyes with the #20 of Jerry Joaquin and the #73 Yamaha of Anthony Gumabon placing fourth and fifth respectively.

Other high lights saw #14 Anthony Ignacio who had raced earlier on this day in the Open Motorcycle class take the Kids 85 and Open Minibike class round 9 win with his little brother #29 Andrew placing second. Third place went #1 JR Cepeda who had a spectacular crash during his first heat race but was able to remount and finish to salvage points. Fourth went to #98 Marshal Vawters Jr. with fifth place going to #4 Rowen Pereira. In the Kids 90cc Atv class Ramon Torres took first with #11 Jose Simpson taking second. Third place went to rookie competitor Jordan Leon Guerrero. In the Kids 70cc Atv class #49 Mason Manglona was unstoppable as the extreme muddy conditions suited him and his Docomo supported Apex perfectly. Taking second was team Aloha Maids #18 Isaiah Reyes with #99 Victoria Clark finishing third. Taking the Kids 50cc Atv win was team Aloha Maids #16 Luke Reyes. In the Kids Open Atv class #49 Mason Manglona was awarded first with #18 Isaiah Reyes placing second and #99 Victoria Clark taking third.

The Monster Energy 2011 Guam Motocross Championships will conclude with the round 10 the final to be held on Sunday August 7th at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. Round eight of the ten round Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships was held this past Sunday out at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. The motocross racing supported by Cycles Plus Honda and RPM Yamaha Power Sports started at 1pm free for all to come out and watch and was some of the closest racing yet this year.

High Lights
Both the kids 85cc minibike and Open Mini Atv classes saw the most intense action packed racing for the lead held yet this year. In the 85cc minibike class in heat one of two scheduled round eight heats #1 JR Cepeda aboard his Johnstone Supplies supported Kawasaki Kx85 jumped out to an early lead followed closely by #14 Anthony Ignacio aboard his Yamaha Yz85. The two leaders quickly pulled away from the rest of the field which included #98 Marshal Vawters jr in third, #29 Andrew Ignacio and #30 Rowen Pereira in fourth and fifth respectively. Cepeda was able to hold off Anthony Ignacio to take the heat one win. In heat two JR Cepeda once again took the early lead followed again closely by Anthony Ignacio but as the the leader came around to complete the first lap he overshot a turn and went wide. The overshoot was all Anthony Ignacio needed to slip his Yamaha by to take the lead. Cepeda made a quick recovery and was up alongside Ignacio challenging for the lead and therefore the overall win almost immediately after being past. With rocks, dirt and dust flying the two leaders were giving it their all racing each other on the razor edge of their talents and control. At the hard charging pace the leaders were going at the track and at each other something was bound to happen- with just a few laps left in the final heat it did Cepeda who is one to never quit crashed on a down hill section of the course. Cepeda after going down quickly remounted and got back into the race still maintaining second place not having lost a single position in the excursion. Anthony Ignacio however was on his way to yet another heat win having a comfortable lead over Cepeda after his spill. Overall it was #14 Anthony Ignacio taking the first with JR Cepeda taking second, Marshall Vawters jr third, Andrew Ignacio fourth and rounding out the top five was #30 Rowen Pereira in fifth overall for round eight.

#27 Marcus Manglona aboard the DOCOMO Apex 90 was a rock star during round eight of the series by being the only rider to have won an overall in the Open Mini Atv class other than the dominator #9 Ramon Torres. The DOCOMO rider Marcus was on fire this past Sunday and took the heat one win over a field of fifteen competitors in the class. Taking second was #49 Mason Manglona aboard a DOCOMO supported Apex 70, third went to the Aloha Maid supported DRX mounted #18 Isaiah Reyes, fourth was #4 Janissa Torres aboard a DRX and rounding out the top five was #5 Colin Ray Cruz aboard a DRX.

In the big gun classes #7 Jonathan Tye Lizama racing aboard the team Cycles Plus Kawasaki Kxf250 swept both Open class Motorcycle heats to take the round eight win and propelled himself into the points championship lead. Taking second was Honda mounted #21 Rico Pereira with #78 Anthony Ignacio taking third on his Yamaha Yz125. Rounding out the top five were #111 Jacob Einloth also aboard a Yamaha Yz125 in fourth and #5 Shawn Aguilo on the Cycles Plus Kawasaki Kxf250 in fifth.

In the Open Atv class #1 Robert Bucek took the Cycles Plus Suzuki Ltr450 to a two heat sweep to take the round eight win. Taking second was #4 Donavan Pitter aboard a Honda Trx450 with third place going to #10 Shane Reyes aboard the Aloha Maid supported Kawasaki kfx450. Taking fourth place was Yamaha mounted #73 Anthony Gumabon with #7 Cid Caser taking a fifth aboard a Yamaha Yfz450.

Round 7 of the Cycles Plus Honda and RPM Yamaha supported ten round Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships was held this past Sunday at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo under some hot and dusty conditions. The event was loaded with close bar banging thrills packed with great racing. Sundays round 7 was free for anyone who wanted to come out to watch with a courtesy canopy having been set up just for spectating up close to the action. The races kicked off at 1pm with the Open Motorcycle class the first of several classes that would be competing which included both big and small motorcycles and atv’s.
Race high lights
Open Motorcycle Class heat1

At the drop of the green flag signifying the start #59 Caleb Barretto on his red Cycles Plus Honda launched himself ahead of the rest of the field leading the pack into the first turn of the course. After the first lap of a 20 minute plus one lap heat Barretto had managed to pull away slightly. Running in second was #7 Jonathan Lizama aboard a Cycles Plus Kawasaki with Yamaha mounted #78 Anthony Ignacio in third. Charging up from a bad start was #11 Michael Limtiaco on his Pacific Trucking Supported Kawasaki and #33 Triple J supported Honda rider Jake Jones. The two fought they’re way up and through the field towards the front with Jones managing to move into the fourth place position behind Ignacio. Limtiaco on the other hand got tangled up with another rider and went down for a soil sampling. Limtiaco was able to remount after eating a bit of Guam’s delicious red dirt and continue. At the end of the first of two scheduled Open Motorcycle Class heats it was Barretto taking first followed by Lizama, Ignacio, Jones and #5 Shawn Aguilo taking the top five finishes respectively.
Heat2
At the start of heat two it was once more the #59 of Caleb Barretto grabbing the lead but this time with a better start he had the #11 Michael Limtiaco hot on his rear wheel. After lap one it was still Barretto then Limtiaco followed by the #7 machine of Jonathan Lizama, the #33 of Jones and the rookie #78 Anthony Ignacio aboard his Yamaha out front battling for a podium position. Up front Limtiaco was keeping the pressure on Barretto for the lead that and the perhaps the fact it was a really hot and humid day was to much for Barretto as the former champion Limtiaco slid past to take the lead. At the checkers of heat two it was Limtiaco taking first, Barretto second followed by Lizama, Ignacio then Jones rounding out the top five respectively. Barretto still earned the overall round 7 win with his 1st and 2nd place heat finishes. While #7 Jonathan Lizama took second place overall with his 2nd and 3rd place finishes. Third overall went to Michael Limtiaco who had managed a 7th and a 1st in his heats. Rookie star Anthony Ignacio who was racing in two classes on this day took fourth overall with #33 Jake Jones taking fifth overall.

In the Open Atv class #1 Robert Bucek aboard the Cycles Plus Suzuki Ltr450 once again swept both heats to take the overall round 7 win. Taking second was #4 Donavan Pitter aboard a Honda Trx450. Third place overall went to #73 Anthony Gumabon aboard a Yamaha Banshee. Rounding out the top five overall was #10 Shane Reyes aboard the Aloha Maid Kawasaki Kfx450 and the #7 of Cid Caser on his Yamaha Yfz450 respectively.

A close bar banging race took place in the 85cc minibike class between #14 Anthony Ignacio on his Yamaha and the #1 Johnstone Supplies supported Jr Cepeda on his Kawasaki. The two were battling back and forth for the win with each taking a turn at leading and with each having earned a hard fought heat win. At the end it was Anthony Ignacio taking the round win with Cepeda grabbing second. Finishing in third was #29 Andrew Ignacio with #98 Marshal Vawters jr. in fourth. Taking fifth was Rowen Pereira.

In the Kids Open Mini Atv class the current points leader Ramon Torres aboard his Haul Pro Apex 90 has been untouchable having lead every lap and taken a first place finish in each and every heat this year so far. Round 7 was no different with the exception of the Docomo supported Apex 90 of #27 Marcus Manglona who grabbed the lead off the start in heat two and was able to hold it for the first half the race. With Torres hot on Manglona rear tires the two Apex mounted riders put on an amazing race which was driving the crowd into a cheering or more of a screaming frenzy. Torres was trying everything to get past the hot and on fire Manglona taking lines on the course that would have the duo side to side drag racing over jumps from one corner to the next. Eventually Torres made the pass and made it stick to go on to another overall win by sweeping his heats. Docomo supported #49 Mason Manglona on an Apex 70 took second overall with #8 Aubrey Tiamanglo on her Drx90 finishing third overall. Marcus Manglona took fourth overall with #88 Janissa Torres placing fifth overall on her Drx90

Gates open at 9am free to enter for spectators with round 7 race action set to begin at 1pm. With both atv and motorcycle classes on the schedule to compete fans can expect several hours of non stop bar banging action all happening on an exciting off road course made up of jumps, bumps and hills all designed to thrill the fans and challenge the riders.

In the premier Open Motorcycle class #59 Caleb Barretto aboard the team Cycles Plus Honda currently tops the championship standings after six of ten rounds completed with 255 points.  Also in the standings running in the second and third place respectively are #7 Jonathan Lizama with 216 points on the team Cycles Plus Kawasaki and Triple J supported #33 Jake Jones on his Honda with 212 points. These three front runners in the current standings will have they’re work cut out for them this Sunday as a host of fast young guns have now entered the mix. Yamaha mounted #14 Anthony Ignacio along with Kawasaki’s #42 JR Cepeda and Honda pilot #21 Rico Pereira had come on strong during the sixth round of the series which was they’re debut into the open class. The three rookies are a definite threat to take a win having now had a full month to adjust to the bigger bikes that make up the Open class and also having now experienced a taste of what it might take to run up front. Another possible spoiler that could take a podium and or the win are #11 Michael Limtiaco aboard the Pacific Trucking supported Kawasaki. Limtiaco has sat out much of this years championship series but has shown interest in coming back out for this Sundays round 7 event. If he does run look for the Pacific Trucking #11 white Kawasaki to be running up front and mixing it up with the leaders. Fans should also look out for a possible break out from the #111 Honda of Jacob Einloth who is currently fourth in the standings and the #5 Kawasaki of Shawn Aguilo who sits in fifth both have been steadily improving through out the series and look ready to make the podium.

In the other big gun class the Open Atv class fans this Sunday will get a chance to watch series points leader and defending champ #1 Robert Bucek aboard the red Cycles Plus Suzuki fend off the four wheeled assaults from a squadron of championship hopefuls. With #10 Jerry Joaquin temporarily sidelined #4 Donavan Pitters aboard his Honda has picked up the pace along with several other competitors in the class and look to possibly take a win this Sunday.

Besides the big guns of the Open Motorcycle and Atv class fans this Sunday can expect lots of close tight racing action in the Kids Minibike and Kids Atv classes. These classes range from 4 year old 50cc riders up to the older teenaged kids that make up the 85cc and 90cc classes.

With just four more rounds left in the hotly contested 2011 championship series this coming Sundays round 7 is guaranteed to be another high flying action packed event. Fans should bring they’re own chairs and drinks. A large courtesy canopy will be set up for spectators and will be located up front near the action.  This past Sunday the Guam International Raceway saw the return of it’s high flying championship motocross racing after just having a one month break in the ten round Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships schedule. The ten round championships are gratefully being supported also by Cycles Plus Honda and RPM Yamaha. Round six of the ten round championship series was action packed and saw some of this year’s closest bar to bar racing yet. Round six also saw several fast young riders making the move from the 85cc and Open Kids Minibike class up into the premier Open Motorcycle class where the big guns of sport compete on the big full sized race bikes. The racing started at 1pm under perfect clear and sunny skies and was a free event to come out and enjoy. A large courtesy canopy for spectators to watch the races in the cool shade was set up front and center of the day’s racing action and gave spectators a perfect panoramic view of the entire race track and all the days’ up close racing action.

Open Motorcycle Class –HEAT 1
With a large contingent of Open Motorcycle class competitors all lined up with their throttles revved Mark Torres the official round six Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championship starter threw the green flag signifying the start of the heat. With the loud roar of the machines along with the screams of the fans the ground seemed as if to vibrate as the competitors rounded the first turn and went flying by into and down the long straight that leads into the tight jump section of the course. Off the start taking the lead early was #59 Caleb Barretto aboard the team Cycles Plus supported Honda followed by #7 Jonathan Lizama aboard a team Cycles Plus supported Kawasaki and a pack of throttled up racers. Going down early and in spectacular fashion was Triple J supported #33 Jake Jones who was able to quickly remount his Honda and reenter the race. Also having difficulty on the first lap was Yamaha mounted #94 Bryan Barker who allowed his machine to stall out in a tight turn which took him several kicks to restart and get himself back into the mix. As the riders came around for the completion of lap one of what would turn out to be a 17 lap heat, 20 minutes plus one lap, #59 aboard the Honda was clearly pulling away from the rest of the competition. #7 Jonathan Lizama also was pulling away from the rest of the field comfortably in the second place position. Running in third but having to fight to keep the position was Yamaha mounted #14a Anthony Ignacio who also leads the 85cc class and had just moved up for round six into the Open Motorcycle class pulling double duty racing in two separate class events this day. Hot on Ignacio’s rear wheel in the fourth position was another young gun #42 JR Cepeda aboard the Johnstone supported Kawasaki pulling double duty also in his first Open Motorcycle class event of his life. Rounding out the top five was Honda mounted #111 Jacob Einloth who was quickly being pressured by #1 Honda mounted Cycles Plus supported Rico Pereira who was yet another rider making the move up from the Minibike class into the Open Motorcycle class on this day. As the race wore on Pereira was able to take his Honda Cr150 past the #111 of Einloth to secure the fifth place position. At the checkers for heat 1 it was the #59 Honda of Caleb Barretto taking first with Lizama, Ignacio, Cepeda, and Pereira rounding out the top five respectively.

 Open Motorcycle HEAT 2
Once again the ground seemed to tremble as the green flag flew for the start of what was now heat 2 of the Open Motorcycle class. The #59 machine of Caleb Barretto was once again out front leading the way with #7 Lizama in second. This time #33 Jake Jones kept it up right and was running in third but was receiving a ton of pressure from both the Yamaha of #14a Anthony Ignacio and the #1 Honda Cr150 of Rico Pereira. The battle for third was intense with Pereira making the move first on the #14a of Ignacio then two laps later the move into third past Jones. Pereira held the third place position for three laps until the #33 of Jones came roaring back by moving Pereira back into the fourth place position. Still charging hard was the #14 of Ignacio who ran a solid fifth and was keeping himself with striking range of third and fourth. Going down and eventually reentering the mix was #42 JR Cepeda who had now the task of catching up from the back of the pack. At the checkers it was once again Honda mounted and Cycles Plus supported #59 Caleb Barretto taking first for the heat and first overall for the round. Barretto’s win extends his championship points lead now with 255 points over second place Jonathan Lizama’s 216 points. Cycles Plus supported Jonathan Lizama aboard the Kawasaki took second in the heat and also for the round. Taking third in the heat was #33 Jake Jones but it was rookie star Anthony Ignacio aboard the #14a Yamaha that took third place overall for the round with his third place and fifth place heat finishes. Taking fourth in the heat was #1 Rico Pereira who also finished fourth overall for the round with his fifth place and fourth place heat finishes. Jones aboard his Triple J supported Honda rounds out the top five overall for the round.

 Race High Lights
The Open Minibike Kids class saw #14 Anthony Ignacio aboard a Yamaha and #42 JR Cepeda aboard a Cycles Plus supported Kawasaki never more than a few bike length apart as they fought it out for the win. The Yamaha of Ignacio was too much for the rest of the competitors and took the win with Cepeda taking second and Marshal Vawters jr taking third. #4 Rowan Pereira took fourth while first time racer #35 Michael Murphy impressed everyone by taking fifth aboard his Kawasaki.

In the Open Atv class #1 Robert Bucek took first aboard the Cycles Plus Suzuki Ltr450 with Yamaha mounted #73 Tony Gumabon taking second. #10 Shane Reyes took his Kawasaki 450 to a third place finish.

 Open Kids Atv
#9 Ramon Torres aboard his Haul Pro supported Apex showed once again why he has gone undefeated thus far in the Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships by taking first in both of his two heats. Taking second and having led for several laps was Docomo supported Marcus Manglona aboard his #27 Apex. Manglona was blazing fast and was challenging the leader Torres at times. Taking third was another Docomo supported rider #49 Mason Manglona aboard a Drx. Rounding out the top five were #18 Isaiah Reyes on a Drx supported by Aloha Maid and team GTR supported #33 Dylan Aguon on a Drx taking fifth.

On Sunday June 12th at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo the seventh round of ten of the Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championship will take place. The gates open at 9am with racing set to start at 1pm. It is free for everyone to come out to watch. Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships

Open Motorcycle class-Half time Report.
#15 Matt Guzman competed on a Honda Crf150 in the Open Motorcycle class

It’s been an exciting five close rounds of the ten round Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships which is also gratefully being supported by Cycles Plus Honda and RPM Yamaha. The series takes place at the Guam International Raceway on its motocross track which has been built with a host of jumps, bumps and general nastiness to challenge the championship hopefuls. The series includes both motorcycle and atv’s with riders of all ages and genders competing in respective classes. The series having reached the halfway point after the completion of round five which was held in conjunction with this years April 16th Shell V-Power Smokin Wheels has been and is enjoying a one month break in its schedule. With the series now at its halfway point let’s this week get up to speed by quickly recapping the first five rounds of the series starting today with the Open Motorcycle class.

The Open Motorcycle class includes motorcycles of all sizes and riders of all ages but is mostly made up of 250 to 450cc full size motocross machines. These are the big guns of the sport and is made up of vet’s, former champions, and a host of young and old championship hopefuls. The series kicked off with round one held on February 20th with #11 Michael Limtiaco taking his Pacific Trucking Kawasaki Kxf450 to a first round win. Limtiaco was continuing on exactly where he had left off in 2010 after he had taken the 2010 RPM Yamaha & Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross Championship.  Taking second in round one was Suzuki mounted #99 Caleb Barretto who would later in the series switch over to a Cycles Plus supported Honda Crf450. Taking third in round one of the series was #33 Jake Jones only in his sophomore year on the big bikes aboard his Triple J supported Honda Crf250. Rounding out the top five were #53 Tom Tarnate in fourth and #17 Antonio Cabe taking fifth in his first race back after breaking his leg in 2010.

Round two February 27th started with out the round one and series points leader Michael Limtiaco in attendance. A scheduled offroad motorcycle tour with his brothers through and around the country of Cambodia would keep the reigning Monsoon champ out of the series until round five. This left the door wide open for another championship hopeful to take over the points lead. Caleb Barretto now on the #99 Cycles Plus Crf450 Honda wasted no time taking over the points lead by dominating the second round of the series. Taking second place in the round two event was #7 Jonathan Tye Lizama aboard a Cycles Plus supported Kawasaki Kxf250. Taking a solid third was #33 Jake Jones who moved himself and his Triple J supported Honda into second place in the series standings. Taking fourth was #53 Tom Tarnate with #111 Jacob Einloth taking fifth.

#7 Jonathan Lizama has worked his way up into a solid third in the points standings by finishing consistently in the top 3
#33 Jake Jones sits in second and is just a few points from being in the championship points lead

Round three March 13th saw the return of a former mini bike champ #14 Paul Errol Angoco who was competing aboard a very nimble Yamaha Yz125 two stroker. Angoco took the round three win with #7 Lizama taking second and #33 Jones once again placing third. #53 Tom Tarnate and #111 Jacob Einloth rounded out the top five respectively. Current series points leader #99 Caleb Barretto took an eight place overall but managed to still hold on to the series lead by three points over #33 Jake Jones with 117 to 114 points. Veteran Guam motocross racer #53 Tom Tarnate after three rounds was doing an excellent job holding up the flag for all the vet riders through consistent finishes and holds on to third in the series standings after round three with 104 points.

Round four March 20th was dominated by Honda mounted #99 Caleb Barretto who took the round four win and thereby extended his hold on the series lead.  #7 Lizama aboard the Kawasaki took yet another second place moving him up to third in the series standings with #33 Jake Jones once again taking that final step on the podium with another third place finish remaining a solid second in the series points standings behind the leader Barretto.

Round five April 16th was a wet and muddy round run on a newly built layout and in conjunction with this year Shell V-Power Smokin Wheels. With a buzz created by it being the 30th running of the Smokin’ Wheels and the return of two of the three Limtiaco brothers to the series and a host of once a year racers the start of the round five event was a highly charged up and anticipated affair. The big guns didn’t let the fans and team supporters down as they blitzed around the first turn like a herd of stampeding wildebeests. When the wall of flying dirt, tires and machines cleared several riders were to be seen picking each other up and restarting their machines after going down in that very wild first turn. Out front and away from the first turn carnage was #14 Paul Errol Angoco aboard a Yamaha Yz125 who seemed very well at home in the slick mud conditions easily out classing the rest of the field to take the round five win. Taking second was #7 Lizama aboard the Cycles Plus supported Kawasaki Kxf250 with #99 Caleb Barretto taking third on the Cycles Plus supported Honda Crf450.

With five more rounds still remaining it’s still anybody’s title. Several hopefuls have displayed the speed it takes to win an individual round but now can they take it the next level by taking the championship? Consistency and speed has been the key so far for the top five machines in the series and with three Honda’s and two Kawasaki’s in the top five. If they want a championship then Yamaha who has riders with plenty of speed is in need of finding rider’s who can not just win rounds but can make it to the starting line consistently. Lots of riders have won races but only a very few have the talent and the will to win a ten round championship series. Make sure to come out to the Guam International Raceway this Sunday May 15th for Guam’s best bar banging cast of high flying motocross racers are set to resume the series action on with round six of the series or for any of the other scheduled Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championship rounds that will happening at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo
